Chizarira National Park is one of the largest nature reserves in Zimbabwe, and also one of the least known. This is because of its geographical isolation - it is situated on the Zambezi Escarpment in the north of the country.
Chizarira's isolated geographical position is also responsible for its main attractions. The park has good wildlife populations and awesome scenery, and is an excellent birding destination. The Mcheni and Lwizikululu rivers have eroded almost sheer crevasses through the escarpment, which falls 600 steep metres towards the Zambezi River valley floor in the park, offering a great view of Lake Kariba.
The Tundazi mountain at the park's northeastern boundary is home to an enormous serpent, according to local folklore.
