Makalolo Plains is situated in a remote area within the vast Hwange National Park - one of the few camps built within its boundaries. Hwange is legendary for its wonderful array of wildlife and massive herds of elephant and buffalo - especially in the drier winter months.

The camp itself is set in a unique location, overlooking the Samavundhla Pan that attracts game in good concentrations. The entire Makalolo Plains is raised onto wooden boardwalks and platforms, giving guests excellent views over the waterhole and floodplain in front of the camp. There is also a lounge, pub, plunge pool and an open fire area for those evening fireside bush tales.

As Makalolo Plains is within Hwange National Park itself, your game viewing starts right at your doorstep. Game drives in 4x4 Land Rovers and walks with an armed guide are all part of the experience. Summer sees the large antelope herds migrate onto the open grasslands in the area, closely followed by their predators. You can sit at a waterhole and watch the passing parade of animals as they come to quench their thirst. Birdlife is also abundant at Makalolo.

Wake up to a light and delicious breakfast at Makalolo Plains before commencing on an early morning game drive. A hearty brunch / lunch follows, as well as afternoon tea. Dinner is served either in the raised dining area or out under the stars.

Makalolo Plains accommodation consists of 9 large, comfortable and tastefully decorated, tented rooms with en-suite facilities. There is an outdoor shower too for those who enjoy showering under the stars.
