Ngezi Recreational Park

Ninety three kilometres outside of Kwekwe, this remote wilderness on the Ngezi River abuts the Mashava mountains of the Great Dyke.

The dam attracts both fishermen and crocodiles and has become something of a centre for crocodile research. There is no swimming, as much on account of the bilharzia as the crocs.

Bilharzia is a parasitic worm carried by freshwater snails. Having entered the body through skin lesions they can make you very ill, so avoid bathing in stagnant or slow moving water. This means most of Zimbabwe's dams.

Fishing, however, is always an option and there are four basic chalets at Ngezi, with great sunset views to base yourself.
