Victoria Falls » Introduction

Victoria Falls has an impressive list of credentials; the widest curtain of falling water on earth, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of only seven natural wonders on the planet.

Often, when there's so much hype about a place, you prepare yourself for a slight let down. This is definitely not the case with a Victoria Falls.

Imagine the impact of a river measuring nearly 2 kms in width, becoming a fraction of that in a matter of seconds. This dramatically beautiful event is accompanied by a deafening roar and fine spray that arcs up into the sky, which explains the Falls' local name, Mosi-oa-Tunya: the "Smoke that Thunders”.

But Victoria Falls is more than a magical show of the force of nature. Africa's undisputed adventure capital, it tops the list for adrenaline junkies the world over with world renowned whitewater rafting, thrilling bungy jumping, hippo-dodging canoe trips, heart-stopping microlight flights and ...the list goes on.

Add to this some excellent reserves, leisurely river cruises, elephant-back safaris and helicopter flips, and it's easy to see why a Victoria Falls safari holiday is a once in a lifetime experience.

When planning your holiday remember that the best time to see Victoria Falls is from February to April, while whitewater rafting doesn't occur when the Zambezi River is in full flood.

There is a wide choice of Victoria Falls accommodation, ranging from river cottages on the banks of the Zambezi and safari lodges on private game reserves, to large colonial-style resorts within sight of Fall's huge plume of spray. Each has its unique advantages and features.

Apart from all the activities on offer around Victoria Falls, there are also numerous tour options, so you're guaranteed to find something that suits you.

We recommend a Victoria Falls safari holiday combining the majesty and adrenaline of Victoria Falls with great game viewing. The Zambezi Sun and Chobe Safari is an excellent option for a family holiday, or stay at the elegant Royal Livingstone hotel before setting off on a wildlife adventure with On safari in Livingstone & Chobe.

Victoria Falls has so much to offer that it'd be a shame not to visit it with your family - you'll find something in our Victoria Falls family holiday packages that'll suit all ages.

The Falls are on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia. The closest towns are Victoria Falls Town (in Zimbabwe) and Livingstone (in Zambia). The border crossing is relatively quick and easy, allowing you to sample the best of both worlds.
