Overview

Shaded by coconut palms, right on the water's edge and away from the hustle and bustle of Grand Baie town, 20° Sud offers the discreet yet friendly service of a small, proprietor-run guest house. 20° Sud has the stylish charm and eclectic elegance of an old home, right down to the individually decorated bedrooms, but with all the contemporary creature comforts to hand. Each is unique, with a light and airy ambiance created with tones of white, cream, wood, and shuttered doors.

Although situated out of town in a quieter residential area, bustling Grand Baie with its markets, Mauritian culture and restaurants is just a short hop away on the free daily boat transfer across the bay. Alternatively, take an excursion to one of the small tropical islands visible from 20° Sud, to picnic and snorkel your day away. Of course you could always stay put and enjoy swimming in the clear pool or off the little beach. Try windsurfing, sailing or kite surfing in the bay, relax with a book or board game on a sun lounger or indulge in one of the body treatments at the hotel spa.

This understated gem is ideal for honeymooners - not only are children not allowed at the hotel but unique experiences like a dinner cruise on the Lady Lisbeth or a meal on deserted Flat Island are utterly romantic and unforgettable.

Rooms

Suite

Although no two rooms at 20° Sud are the same, each air-conditioned suite is tastefully decorated in tones of fresh white and specially selected antiques. Each has a large plasma TV, a multi-media system with a selection of movies and free access to Wi-Fi internet. Each also has its own terrace overlooking the coconut grove. The en suite bathrooms have large, free-standing bathtubs and separate showers.

Other Room Types

The suites at 20° Sud have breathtaking views of the bay, a lovely large terrace from which to enjoy the view and either a small plunge pool or Jacuzzi for your personal use.

Two hundred metres from the hotel are 4 exclusive use Villas, each with a private swimming pool and direct access to the waterfront.

Facilities

The Poolside Bar is popular for its exotic cocktails and choice of juices, wines and other drinks, as well as for the soft musical entertainment in the evenings.

Select a book from the well-stocked library for some light reading during your stay or challenge your companions to a game of billiards.

Pull up a sun lounger next the sheltered lap pool for a lazy day of reading books and dips in the refreshing water.

Various non-motorised watersport equipment such as hobie cats, stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, flippers and masks are available at the boathouse.

Indulge in a relaxing massage in the hotel’s spa or make use of the whirlpool hot tub and hammam (Turkish bath) at any time.

Being so close to Grande Baie means there are myriad of activities available on your doorstep to keep you occupied.

Dining

The hotel restaurant serves all-day English or Continental breakfasts, complimentary afternoon high tea, and dinners created by the local 20° Sud chef using the finest local ingredients.

It is also possible to dine aboard the oldest motorboat in Mauritius - the Lady Lisbeth - that has been restored by the owners of 20° Sud. Every evening she departs for her trip around the bay, with a maximum of eight guests for a very private dining experience.

For a truly different experience, sail away to Flat Island where 20° Sud have created a tiny, personalized restaurant in an old ruin on this otherwise deserted island.

20 Degrees Sud

This stunning Boutique Hotel was a true gem for me as it had so much history to the decor, personal touch from the owners collectables and a luxury barefoot beach/colonial feel which is perfect for couples and especially Honeymooners. I truly loved t he intimacy of the Boutique Hotel and the private beach where you can relax in a hammock or one of the beach beds. They offer a complimentary boat shuttle service which runs daily and escorts you to the other side of the bay where you can enjoy shopping at the local markets. Two highlights for me was they own the oldest motor boat in Mauritius and offer dinning on board which includes all drinks and a three course Seafood meal at an additional cost but highly recommended for a cosy and romantic evening under the stars on a vintage boat. The other highlight was a day trip to the Governor's House which 20 Degrees Sud created an extraordinary site on the island of Ile Plate. The Governors House is a 19th century ruin where there is an exclusive restuarant, accommodation and private beach and guests are escorted from 20 Degrees Sud via a Catamaran. This is also highly recommended and can be booked out for groups or couples privately.
