Lying at an altitude of 1 400 metres (4 600 feet) gives African View Lodge commanding views of the Rift Valley landscape and one of its most famous features – Mount Meru, Tanzania's second highest mountain.

Complete with a wide range of activities and excursions in addition to having Arusha National Park on its doorstep, this charming lodge offers cottage-style accommodation, conveniently set around a large swimming pool and garden, as well as a more private tree-house suite. Guests also have the advantage of complimentary Wi-Fi and plenty of opportunities to relax after a long-haul flight or before a safari along Tanzania's world-famous northern circuit. There is a massage service available and a restaurant with bar and beer garden; you even get a hot-water bottle in your bed on chilly nights!

African View Lodge is a short drive from the town of Arusha, the most important travel hub for northern Tanzania's top destinations such as the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. Such a location makes the lodge ideal for travellers looking for an overnight accommodation as they begin or end their Tanzania safari as Kilimanjaro International Airport is just a 30-minute drive away. African View Lodge offers has much to offer, depending on how long you stay: you can sit back on a game drive in Arusha National Park, visit a traditional Maasai village, tour local coffee farms or join a guide on a canoe and look for African fish eagles and giant monitor lizards on Lake Duluti.

  • African View lodge has Arusha National Park on its doorstep, this charming lodge offers cottage-style accommodation.

Bungalow Room

There are 20 cottage-style chalets at African View Lodge, each themed on a different aspect of the country, from the Maasai people to the Serengeti savannah. The cottages are large and light-filled, thatched in banana leaves and feature double or twin beds swathed in white netting. Simply but pleasantly furnished and featuring an attractive art piece here and there, the rooms have electric light and battery-recharging points as well as a private outdoor terrace. Each cottage has its own bathroom with a shower, basin and flush toilet.

Treehouse

African View Lodge offers an additional accommodation in the form of the Tree House, a permanent tented suite built into the branches of trees in the garden. You approach it via a wooden walkway and sit on a terrace surrounded by greenery. Simple but stylish, it has been designed for privacy and experience; complete with a double bed, it is recommended for couples and honeymooners.

General Facilities

African View Lodge has a large indoor restaurant and bar as well as an extensive tropical garden in which you will find a swimming pool surrounded by sun umbrellas and reclining chairs. There is a leafy beer garden, a sunset viewing platform with Mount Meru as its main subject, and a convivial campfire area where guests gather in the evenings for drinks and safari stories.

There is a massage service offered (at additional cost) as well as a laundry service and complimentary Wi-Fi.

The in-house restaurant serves three meals a day – breakfast cooked to order, and then lunch and dinner from a menu that changes daily. Meals are largely based on local ingredients, including many sourced from the lodge's own kitchen gardens, and are served at individual tables in a dining room, which has a bar and fireplace.
