Rooms

Uitsig One Bedroom Suite

The Akademie Street Guesthouses has five separate Afrikaans-named 'houses' and guesthouse suites, each uniquely decorated and offering a real home-away-from-home feel.

Uitsig (View) is a private upstairs suite that enjoys wonderful views of the mountains from a sunny balcony. The spacious bedroom has an extra length king-size bed with an ultra-modern en suite bathroom and underfloor heating. The Uitsig shares a pool and lovely garden with the Twyfeling suites.

Twyfeling One Bedroom Suite A

Twyfeling (Doubting) is a gracious Cape Dutch-style house and completely self-contained. It has its own living room, library and two spacious bedroom suites, one of which has its own private conservatory area and beautiful views.

Oortuiging One Bedroom Suite A

Oortuiging (Conviction) is an original two-bedroom Franschhoek cottage built in the 1860s. Both rooms are en suite bathrooms with the master bedroom consisting of a extra length king-size bed, and the second bedroom has a twin bed. The rest of the house includes a lounge, kitchen and spacious dining room. It also has its own swimming pool and garden.

Gelatenheid One Bedroom Cottage

Gelatenheid (Equanimity) is a beautiful and spacious double storey guesthouse with a large balcony and lovely views over the Franschhoek Winelands. It has a loft-style upstairs bedroom, en suite bathroom and a spacious lounge area. Downstairs the guesthouse has a large lounge and kitchenette which leads out onto a veranda with a private pool and garden.

Facilities

Enjoy reading your complimentary newspaper in the morning out in the garden with your after-breakfast coffee.

Learn about the many highlights of Franschhoek, and make restaurant and day trip bookings, care of the 24-hour concierge service or indeed on your laptop, using the guesthouse's Wi-fi.

Cool off during the day between your sight seeing and wine tasting in one of the four swimming pools.

Dining

Akademie Street Guesthouses offers a freshly-prepared breakfast each morning, consisting of a continental and full English menu. "Akademie met our needs exactly!"

"Akademie Street Boutique in Franshhoek was lovely and once again the service from the staff was excellent. The breakfast they served here was decadent and we really enjoyed all the amenities that were included in our stay."

In Franschhoek we had rain for three days, but our purpose there was to have some down time in between game lodges, so we simply enjoyed the Akademie Street guest house and the restaurants in the town. The guest house was wonderful, and the owners we re friendly and accommodating. They even ordered in lactose-free milk and yoghurt for Karen. The room was large and comfortable, and very well equipped. Breakfasts were excellent. There is a good DVD library and we watched movies while it rained. The owners, Arthur and Katherine were wonderful hosts and obviously very fond of their staff. One thing to note is that there are no taxis in Franschhoek, so you either need your own vehicle or you need to pre-arrange a guide if you want to tour the area.

Akademie Street Guest House: the place to stay in Franschhoek. Superb. Katherine, the owner is fantastic, whilst her husband Arthur is also a very nice gentleman. We were really pampered by all of them: breakfast was to die for. Shame they do not ven ture in lunches and dinners. The accommodations are excellent. Again we had a bit of problem with the hot water on each of the girls’ rooms. Katherine was extremely apologetic and we think it was because the girls wanted to take a late shower.

"My only real disappointment was the Akademie Guest House – I am not sure why it is as highly rated as it is, given the cost. There was nothing wrong but I did not think it was so special."

"This hotel in Franschhoek was quite nice. We had a two-story house to ourselves (the Gelatenheid Unit) and the service was very good. It's a small boutique hotel and has a very home-like feel."

An incredible find! To have so much space to spread out in, was lovely. It had also become extremely warm by this time but the cool interior of the cottage and shady garden was a real bonus! Our hosts could not have done more for us. I would highly r ecommend Akademie Street.

The room at Akademie Street Guesthouse was lovely and huge. The location was great and breakfast was fantastic. Katherine was a lovely hostess, although we found Arthur a bit on the quiet side. The only problem we had with Franschhoek was, we wishe d we had another day or two there! As we arrived rather late, we only had one day for wine tasting and shopping. The second day we went BACK to Hermanus as our shark diving trip was cancelled while we were staying at Birkenhead House. That was also amazing, and well worth backtracking for.
