Amalinda Lodge
Amalinda is an award-winning boutique lodge built against the granite boulders of Zimbabwe's cherished World Heritage Site, the Matobo Hills. Encircled by the country's oldest protected reserve, Matobo National Park, it offers 44,500 hectares of diverse wilderness, inviting you to explore its historical and archaeological richness.
The region is known for its rugged terrain, where wooded valleys and open grasslands meet gravity-defying rock formations and deep, unending caves. You'll explore these dramatic and diverse landscapes on game drives and walking safaris, with a dedicated guide unravelling the ancient tales of this iconic reserve.
While out on cave explorations, uncover San rock art that dates back thousands of years and holds deep cultural significance for the Ndebele people. Meanwhile, rhino tracking expeditions bring you face-to-face with Africa's endangered black and white rhino.
The camp offers an unforgettable wilderness retreat that features the classic trimmings of an African safari, combined with luxury four-star lodgings and exceptional wildlife sightings amid a culturally rich landscape. The reserve serves as a gateway to one of Southern Africa's greatest concentrations of San rock art and a pioneer in the conservation of the black and white rhino.

The suites at Amalinda are built against granite boulders, blending elements of rock, thatch, and wood to echo the natural surroundings. Each suite is designed to capture the essence of luxury cave-dwelling, with a king-sized bed commanding the centre of the space, draped in mosquito netting and layered with electric blankets for a cosy night’s rest.
An en-suite bathroom features an indoor shower and a double vanity carved into the rock face. The Cecil John Rhodes Suite boasts an outdoor bathtub, while the Lobengula Suite is completed by an outdoor shower—offering an unparalleled open-air bathing experience.
Suites are adorned with teak and leather furnishings, and the walls are decorated with artefacts reflective of the Ndebele tribes, creating a classic safari ambiance. A private tea and coffee-making station invites you to begin each day with a hot brew and a quiet moment in your lounge area before setting out on the day’s adventure.
Upgrade your stay to the private Homestead Suite, featuring three spacious bedrooms—each with its own viewing deck. The open-plan kitchen is complemented by a private chef, ready to craft impeccable dishes to satisfy your appetite. Your dining experience is elevated by a private BBQ area and outdoor boma that invites lively family dinners amidst a breathtaking wilderness backdrop.
Afternoons at Amalinda are well-spent on a chaise lounge with a drink in hand, taking refreshing dips in an infinity ‘rock' pool built into a granite depression. You're invited to indulge in a full-body massage, beside a sun-warmed boulder for complete relaxation.
An elevated bar and lounge, tucked within a granite hillside, offers the perfect setting for pre-dinner drinks with quiet views over the reserve.
Laundry services will also ensure your garments are fresh for each day's excursions. An additional charge for internet access encourages you to embrace your natural surroundings, while mobile connectivity ensures you can still stay connected when needed.

The lodge offers a full English breakfast as well as gourmet three-course meals served around the iconic ‘Captain's Table'—a teak dining table crafted from original railway ties dating back to the late 1800s, a nod to Cecil John Rhodes' vision of building a railway line from Cape to Cairo.
Lunches are served poolside, under the coverage of a thatched outdoor lounge, inviting conviviality and afternoon drinks. An evening of quiet romance can be arranged for couples wishing to dine in a private spot, away from the crowds. The chefs are also well-versed in catering to special dietary requirements, ensuring a delicious meal for everyone.
Amalinda Lodge is truly one-of-a-kind—built into the granite boulders of Matobo Hills, it feels both ancient and intimate. The design is incredible, but what really sets it apart is the deep connection to the area's culture and history. It's more than a safari—it's a journey into Zimbabwe's soul.

I loved staying in what felt like a luxury cave carved into these ancient burnt-orange rocks, walking with the rhinos in the wild was humbling. Knowing my stay makes a difference to the local environment, wildlife and people is priceless.
World's View was a highlight with the most amazing sunset. The Camp Amalinda guide was excellent and really made the history of Cecil John Rhodes come alive.
