Enjoy a front-row seat on the banks of the Mara River, famous for its mid-year wildebeest crossings during the Great Migration. Ashnil Mara Camp is situated in one of the best positions for game viewing in the world-renowned Masai Mara, with a large of selection tents that offer superb comfort.
Go on 4x4 game drives or thrilling nature walks guided by experts of the Mara. During the mid-year Migration season you could witness one of nature’s greatest events: hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra making their annual journey across the Mara River from the Serengeti in Tanzania.
Break away from the more traditional safari camp lunches and enjoy a delicious picnic under a shady tree, surrounded by nothing else than the breath-taking landscape. Breakfasts can be served next to the Hippo Pool – a spectacular location for early-morning hippo sightings. Experience a romantic bush dinner under the African night sky, a definite highlight at Ashnil Mara Camp.
The camp offers informative cultural tours and visits to Maasai villages, as well as exceptional walks through nearby Nyakweri Forest, the biggest remaining chunk of indigenous forest in the Mara area. Its traditional custodians are the Dupoto Maasai, who will enjoy showing you forest dwellers like turacos, trogons, wood hoopoes, hornbills and shy dik-dik. Ashnil Mara Camp lies within an area of great scenic beauty that includes the Leganishu Hills (that rise over 2 000 metres / 7 000 feet above the savannah), the Soit Ololol escarpment and the Loita Hills.
Back at camp, evening entertainment is provided by traditional dancers and storey tellers in a customary boma; join the singing and dancing, and try to solve riddles from Maasai folklore.
