Style & Décor
Elegant and well-appointed, Brightside is furnished with ease and comfort in mind, while the architectural layout maximises the views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Twelve Apostles mountains. The floors and stairwells of white marble high keep the heat down in the hot summer months, while the stacking doors allow for cool sea breezes to filter in. The wood-fired induction fireplace warms Brightside in the cooler winter months.
The furnishings are lavish and striking – think sleek white leather couches, a 64-inch Samsung Smart TV with Bose surround sound system, and a contemporary glass 12-seater dining room table offset with tasteful decorative pieces. The open-plan living area and pool deck is an invitation to linger.
Neighbourhood
Camps Bay is one of Cape Town's favourite haunts. The long, sunny days are best spent on its gently curving white beach. Fringed with palms, it has a warm tidal pool and acres of space for a game of Frisbee or beach bats.
The trendy ‘Strip’ lined with a buzzing array of restaurants and cocktail bars offering an easy-living café lifestyle. Straight off the beach, enjoy a lazy lunch, with bare feet and sun-warmed skin. The atmosphere is so friendly, it is easy to slip into sundowners and dinner before strolling back to your villa on a quiet side street nearby.
Suitability
Brightside is a grown-up affair, catering to parties of stylish adults or older multi-generational families – its five double rooms sleep 10. The terraced garden and pool deck offer great outdoor living but the sleek interiors and white furniture are designed with the discerning traveller in mind.
Best time to visit
Camps Bay has the best sunsets in Cape Town so be prepared to be dazzled. The hot, dry summer months run from October to April, but the southeaster wind can blanket Table Mountain in a ‘tablecloth’ of cloud. The best time to visit is late January to April when it is more temperate and less crowded, though there is still plenty of blue sky and sunshine.
Yet winter in Cape Town has its own special allure. There are plenty of crisp sunny days even though it is the rainy season. Restaurants and wine farms often have roaring fires to keep off the chill, and there are many specialist art galleries, boutiques and museums to visit.
Special notes
Security is a feature at Brightside. It has a large multi-bay garage with parking for up to five cars. The villa is on three levels, starting with the garage on street level. All five bedrooms are on the first level, which also has an informal family and TV area on the landing. From this level, there is access to the terraced garden and paved patio. The large glass sliding doors maximise the views and the natural light.
On the top floor is the living area, with its open plan lounge and dining room and kitchen. Skylights frame the Twelve Apostles while large sliding doors stack away to reveal sweeping ocean views.
