Overview

‘Jabulani’ is a Zulu word that means ‘rejoice’ and that is exactly what guests at Jabulani Safari set in the Kapama Game Reserve near the Kruger National Park do on their arrival. With only six incredibly spacious suites and a self-contained family villa known as Zindoga, the emphasis at Jabulani Safari is on exquisite service, exceptional cuisine and unsurpassed relaxation.

You and your family have access to the open-air Therapy Lapa spa, gym and sauna and there is a special children-only programme to introduce under-12s to the many exciting secrets of the African bush. Jabulani Safari – a Relais & Chateaux property – will also introduce you to the Zen-like experience of an early morning hot-air balloon safari where you will drift silently over grazing herds of game and a landscape that is slowly greeting a sunny new day.

I feel truly privileged to have stayed at this lodge. Meeting and interacting with the elephants at sunset was an experience I will never forget.

Facilities

At Jabulani Safari a historic atmosphere permeates the main building that houses the bar, lounge and dining areas. Wood, leather, animal prints, African fabrics and chandeliers evoke the grandiosity of the bygone years of the classic safari. An outdoor seating area in the shade of an ebony tree is the perfect spot for alfresco meals while, on winter nights, a roaring fireplace in the dining room creates a snug and cosy haven.

The Therapy Lapa Spa provides a tranquil space to soothe and revitalise, while the quirky open-air Bush Gym (with free weights, treadmill and spinning equipment) and sauna allows you to burn off the kilojoules from the kitchen’s irresistible fare! For retail therapy, an amply stocked gift shop has the ideal memento of your adventures.

Team Tusker is a dedicated group of rangers who make it their mission to enthral children with the mysteries of the bush, leading them in spoor identification, tracking and animal arts & crafts, among other entertaining and educational activities. Cheetah interaction can be arranged at the Hoedspruit Endangered Animal Centre to allow you to better appreciate these astonishing predators and understand the threats they face.

Dining

Fancy juicy kudu fillet with honey-roasted butternut or perhaps homemade tortillas with rare roasted springbok loin? Meals at Jabulani Safari focus on fresh ingredients and delectable pairings within incredible settings. At breakfast, expect muffins still warm from the oven while children will be excited to have their own menu to choose from.

Jabulani Safari

The camp was very special and we loved the elephants very very much. I thought the game viewing was as good as other parks - but found the landscape to be a bit less wild and a bit more surrounded by civilization than I am used to - but certainly I saw all the animals and found the rangers to be very well informed and charming. The Endangered Species Center was also really a treat - a nice change from the usual and great to see the work being done there. The overall quality of the staff was exceptional both at the camp and in regards to the elephants.
