Overview of Constance Aiyana
Set at the northern tip of Pemba Island, Constance Aiyana is about as far off the beaten path as you can get in the region. This accommodation requires a flight from Zanzibar Island and an hour’s transfer to reach but your worthy reward is an elegant resort set in tropical gardens and a few steps from an unspoilt Indian Ocean beach off the coast of Tanzania. Exclusive, remote and idyllic, Constance Aiyana is perfect for discerning and romantic travellers and the ideal treat after a safari in the Serengeti.
Two thousand years of passing trade and cultures have left their mark on Pemba Island and this is reflected in the architecture and furnishings of Constance Aiyana – expect traditional white-washed walls, fragrant shrubs and an eclectic blend of African and Arabic art. Accommodation takes the form of private villas. Complete with Wi-Fi, each is air-conditioned and has a full en suite bathroom and an outdoor shower. The larger villas have their own lounges and infinity pools while the Presidential Suite makes a strong claim as perhaps the most luxurious accommodation on Pemba.
Constance Aiyana is the sort of resort where you are encouraged to do as much or as little as you like. Boat trips, kayaking and snorkelling are complimentary and there is an extensive list of extra activities such as local bike tours, scuba-diving trips and Zanzibar spice tours. Alternatively, you have an outdoor sala at your villa as well as sun loungers set under thatched shade on the beach where you can nap, sunbathe, read or sketch. Naturally, Constance Aiyana also has a spa offering massages, facials and body treatments.

General Facilities
The villas at Constance Aiyana are arranged on either side of the main resort where you will find the restaurant, a traditionally-inspired Shisha lounge and well-stocked bar – all with Wi-Fi – and a pair of boutiques should you feel like shopping. Outside there is a large swimming pool around which lie sun loungers and shade umbrellas on an area that flows out onto the beach in front of the resort.
Constance Aiyana has a spa offering various treatments and therapies – often using local Indian Ocean resources – as well as a fitness centre. The double treatment room at the spa is convenient for couples who want to share the indulgence together.
Non-motorised water ports are free at the resort – grab a kayak or mask and snorkel and off you go – and there are also opportunities to take part in extra activities such as scuba diving in a marine reserve, a guided forest walk or a bicycle tour to a local village.

Dining
The main restaurant at Constance Aiyana divides its seating between indoors and outdoors and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. ‘Bringing out African flavour’ is the kitchen’s watchword and the cuisine is a fusion of international dishes and local specialities. Seafood features strongly on the menu – fish are literally bought off the boats as they come in – as do fresh fruits and vegetables while a well-stocked wine cellar ensures you have something with which to toast the night.
