It may be trite to say it but King's Pool Camp is genuinely worthy of royalty. This plush camp is located on the private Linyanti Game Reserve – one of the most pristine and least-visited areas in all of Botswana where you have exclusive access to three million hectares of untrammelled wilderness that includes the incredible Savute Channel. The unsurpassed accommodation overlooks King's Pool Lagoon and the Linyanti River where game thrives and predators such as lions, African wild dogs and hyenas are spotted regularly. With two-thirds of the channel falling within the reserve and Namibia’s Caprivi Strip just across the river, this bountiful area offers discerning travellers a slice of Africa at her best.

In addition to dawn, dusk and evening game drives in a roofless 4x4, guests at King's Pool Camp can enjoy river cruises on the Victorian-inspired barge and seclude themselves in two different hides – one sunk below ground next to a waterhole – to get the best possible encounters with game. To help preserve the environment, the entire camp runs off solar power only, and the walkways between the nine luxurious tents have been raised to allow smaller game complete access (the encampment is unfenced, allowing you to listen to hippo and warthog families roaming and rooting around at night). Twitchers will be thrilled that King's Pool Camp lies in an IBA – important bird area – and yellow bee catchers will be among the first ticked off your list.

Even the tents are as impressive as the surroundings: each has its own plunge pool overlooking the King's Pool Lagoon, double walk-in showers and incredibly romantic 4-poster beds. Combined with discreet staff and excellent attention to detail, King's Pool Camp is a haven for safari-goers who a 5-star bush experience with all the extras.

Standard Twin Tent

Accommodation at the camp consists of nine carpeted tents of canvas and thatch that overlook King's Pool Lagoon, which teems with wildlife.

The en suite bedroom inside each tent is vast with an adjoining lounge area providing a comfortable space for relaxation under gently circling ceiling fans. The colonial decorative style exudes charm and sophistication with impeccable attention to detail, making it very easy to forget that your lavish abode is in fact a tent at all.

The en suite bathrooms have double walk-in showers and hairdryers, and your bed is warmed with a personal hot-water bottle on cooler evenings.

Folding doors in the front of your suite allow the tent to completely open to the glorious lagoon below. On the private deck outside there is a plunge pool, an outside shower and a beckoning daybed shaded by a gazebo.

Other Room Types

The family unit is a large double room with a master bedroom and adjoining room with twin beds.

The tents and communal areas of the camp are linked by raised wooden walkways allowing the animals to walk freely below.

The expansive wooden deck overlooking King's Pool Lagoon has two sunken seating areas from where you are able to watch hippos, crocodiles and the prolific birdlife resident on this untouched reserve. Built into the enormous deck is also an infinity-edge plunge pool ideal for cooling off on sunny afternoons, and a more formal seating area also forms part of the front deck. Just behind this is a thatch-covered bar and dining area whose aesthetics are in complete harmony with the natural environment.

Aside from twice-daily game drives, walking safaris with an armed guide as well as boating trips (water-level dependent) are also available. A beauty and wellness therapist is at hand if you would like to indulge in any massage or aromatherapy treatments during your stay.

As part of the fun Bush Buddy programme, children from six to 17 can do everything from go frogging with their designated 'buddy' and make casts of animal tracks to challenge the staff to soccer or volleyball games and capture their unique safari experience in story telling and poetry.

Enjoy a light breakfast before your morning safari and a substantial brunch on your return from the wilderness. Afternoon tea is served with a decadent choice of sweet and savoury snacks to enjoy before your afternoon game drive. If you like, skip the morning game drive, eat a substantial breakfast and take lunch instead of brunch.

Dinner is most often served under the stars on the front deck. Your meals can be enjoyed at individual tables or in a convivial group.

Every meal at King's Pool Camp is a gastronomic celebration of world flavours paired with appropriate wine. Side dishes and starters are served buffet-style and main courses in an a la carte fashion.

King's Pool Camp

"All of the camps we visited (Jao, Kalahari Sands, and King's Pool) were fantastic, the service and accommodations more than we expected, and the knowledgeable staff extremely helpful and informative."

We enjoyed our trip to the Delta very much. I seem to always have my "travel agent" hat on when we travel because I'm always comparing and contrasting different camps, countries, etc! lol This was the first time that we have been to a Wilderness Sa fari camp, Kings Pool. It seemed as though most of the guests were only staying at Wilderness properties but we were glad to have stayed at the Sanctuary camps to compare. Kings Pool had the best room and view as well as lots of wildlife in the camp (I have video of a large bull elephant right outside the front door of our room), but the game was sparse in the Linyanti area compared to Sabi and the food only got a 5 from us. We did get the room that I had requested at Baines and Kings Pool but not at Chiefs. All in all, we're glad we went to the the Delta (the water was lower this year than in the last 3 years we were told but still beautiful) but don't feel that Botswana offers good value for the quantity of the game that we saw. That seemed to be a fairly prevalent opinion that we heard from others as well. So, you'll be glad to hear that we continue to sing the praises of South Africa and Sabi Sand and will continue to encourage people to visit!

Kings Pool has special atmoshere with the deck overlooking the hippo's. Quite a difference in quality of the guides, one was the best ever, and one mediocre. If you swap cars it becomes very noticable. Wild life in Kings Pool was great : leopard with prey in the trees, lion family digesting the last parts of baby elephant, chasing hyenas for over 5 kilometers to find their den. They arranged a great afternoon cruise with sundowners on the upperdeck, very comfortable and relaxing.

We were punctually collected by Alex from Kings Pool and welcomed like a part of the family when we got to camp…. Here I really can’t say enough about the staff at Kings Pool in specific “One” who made all my valentines dreams come true… they treated us like absolute royalty, nothing was too much, but there was also enough space just to chill and be ourselves whilst being waited on hand and foot – this is quite a fine balance to get right and they did it magically! Our guide on this part of the trip was a little too much like a school headmaster for me, he was quite strict about not talking on the drive, which didn’t leave much room for chatting to the other guests which got quite boring quite quickly and I actually ducked out of a few drives because I found they were quite long time wise and also not very much ‘fun’. The food, service from all the other staff, location, amenities etc. was spectacular and the wildlife, including the morning serenade of Hippo’s was enough to keep us smiling

It was fantastic. The staff at this camp were just perfect. They had very social managers, excellent location and service was outstanding. The game viewing was also great, the only thing we did not see were wild dogs, that in spite of our driver Mose s tearing from the lodge to the far boundary of the property just to find a pack of them for us. We missed them, but it was simply his attitude to helping make our time memorable that was great. We had baboons raid our room and a very large elephant literally 3 metres from our front door. This place was a great start to our trip.
