Overview of Kosi Forest Lodge

Set within the unspoilt wilderness of the Isimangaliso Wetland Park in northern KwaZulu Natal, Kosi Forest Lodge is a peaceful nature retreat that offers amazing activities and a chance to explore this genuinely stunning coastal region. Isimangaliso is a World Heritage Site: its unique ecosystem is home to a diverse birdlife, rare coastal forests and amazing, rarely-seen creatures like leatherback turtles and palmnut vultures. Explore Isimangaliso’s little-visited wetlands on guided canoe or boat trips and then take forest walks or day excursions to nearby beaches. The bird watching in the region is sensational, and between November and January, lucky guests can track rare leatherback and loggerhead turtles as they come ashore to lay their eggs – Kosi Forest Lodge truly offers a luxurious eco-experience in the heart of the teeming Isimangaliso wetlands.

The canoeing, walking tour and relaxing at the poolside overlooking the lake was a great break from all the game drives.

In the case of Kosi, we were keen to see birdlife in the wetlands, however, the bird life there is seasonal and we were out of season! No birds. I will restate that both places were indeed pleasant and we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless but “time over” we would not have travelled those significant distances to those venues. One tip to anyone going to Kosi – the road in is a doosey! Do heed the warnings about the necessity for 4 wheel drive (we got bogged but were quickly rescued!).

This was our next stop where we spent time in absolute peace and tranquility! It was a truly stunning place and we were pretty much the only people on the beach for the whole afternoon!
