Overview of Mashatu Main Camp
Featuring a floodlit waterhole that gives its guests an insight into Africa’s nocturnal wildlife, Mashatu Main Camp is located in the private Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana’s Tuli Block. A small, intimate but family-friendly camp of only 14 suites, the focus here is on delivering a comprehensive game viewing and cultural experience in the little-visited south-east corner of Botswana. Set out at dawn and dusk with dedicated Tswana rangers and trackers on game drives to spot the famous big game of the region.
Hear about the fascinating protection and conservation initiatives in the camp’s Discovery Room and visit the historical Motloutse Ruins and Pitsani Koppie sites for a cultural alternative. Mashatu Main Camp is elevated around a floodlit waterhole and offers many excellent vantage points from which to view animals as they come down to drink.
The camp has a comfortable lounge and bar area as well as a large swimming pool, a curio shop and conference facilities.
A family-friendly camp, Mashatu has a professional children’s programme where young ones will be educated about the environment by trained supervisors and rangers while you catch up on some relaxation time or go for a game drive.
The reserve has initiated a number of research programmes as part of the protection and conservation of the area. Mashatu Main Camp is the base for this research and you will be offered an insight into these fascinating programmes at the camp’s Discovery Room.

Mashatu Main Camp has an indoor dining area though the camp’s sumptuous dinners of fresh, wholesome and African-inspired dishes are usually served around a crackling fire in the enclosed boma and under a canopy of African stars.
