If you are feeling active, however, then there is a wide selection of day activities to choose from: discover the Mnemba Atoll with its famous reef and fascinating underwater world on diving and snorkelling excursions (there is an on-site diving centre) or use the complimentary kayaks and explore the turquoise waters under your own steam.
There is Internet access at Matemwe and guests can also visit a local village and learn about Zanzibari culture, pamper themselves with massages and spa treatments or set off for a day trip around Zanzibar – all of which are easily arranged by Matemwe’s staff.

Matemwe’s restaurant is designed to maximise the view of the ocean and the dhow fishermen who head out at breakfast, and then return at lunch. There is also a cosy lounge area and dinner is sometimes served around the pool under the palms.
Fresh fish is combined with fresh local produce to create a tasty dining experience. Lunch is a selection of buffet-style African and European dishes while dinner includes meat, fish and vegeterian options. Before dinner, enjoy a delicious cocktail at the poolside bar.
