Named after legendary Tanzanian guide, Mkombe Mniko, who had a special rapport with children, Mkombe’s House has been designed to give families a truly special home away from home in the northern Serengeti. From the wooden decks, plunge pool or larger swimming pool, you and your children can enjoy views of the Lamai Wedge and the Mara River Valley, site of the famous Wildebeest Migration river crossings from about July to October.
As well as the Kogatende airstrip being nearby, Mkombe’s House can also be reached by road from Arusha, the gateway to the northern Tanzanian safari circuit. The house has been sensitively designed in thatch and stone to blend in with the landscape, and is furnished in an attractive combination of modern classics and African antiques. There are two main en suite bedrooms, and each has an adjoining en suite room for children, meaning it can sleep four adults and six children of all ages in complete comfort. In keeping with its commitment to be as child-friendly as possible, Mkombe’s House has cots (cribs), high chairs and car seats for infants, and a babysitting service is also available.
In between private game drives, there is plenty to see and do. Guests over 12 can undertake guided nature walks (look out for hyraxes and lizards sunning themselves on the kopje rocks) and the staff can arrange bush picnics and sundowners in natural beauty spots.
