Mkulumadzi
Set in a private concession, Mkulumadzi Lodge is shaded by giant leadwood and wild mango trees on the banks of the Shire River in Malawi. Within walking distance of the plunging Kapichira Falls in the Majete Wildlife Reserve, Mkulumadzi Lodge is situated in one of Malawi's premier wildlife destinations. Despite its prime location, it remains virtually unknown, promising a unique and uncrowded experience. The lush surroundings and tranquil atmosphere provide the perfect backdrop for a relaxing and adventurous getaway.
A range of exciting activities awaits at Mkulumadzi Lodge. Traditional game drives provide the chance to see a variety of wildlife, including the Big Five, in their natural habitat. Guided walking safaris offer a more intimate exploration of the bush, allowing guests to learn about the smaller details of the ecosystem, from plants to insects and tracking animal footprints. Boating safaris along the Shire River present a different perspective on the wildlife, with opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, and a myriad of bird species. Additionally, trips to the nearby village and community center give a glimpse into the local culture and way of life, fostering a deeper connection to the region.
Owned and managed by Robin Pope Safaris, one of Africa's leading safari companies, Mkulumadzi Lodge guarantees high standards of accommodation, hospitality, guiding, and catering. You can expect luxurious lodgings that blend seamlessly with the natural environment, offering comfort and elegance in the heart of the wilderness.

First time we can finally see hypos outside of water. The best experience was the elephants crossing the air field just before we take off! The Room was really great. The food, I found it excellent.
I had a very nice time at Mkulumadzi, Craig and Emma were great hosts and do an admirable job of running the place. Somehow I missed the fact that the rooms were open to the outdoors, but I did get used to that. It was lovely to be able to see and hear the river from bed 🙂
The bed cooling system they have in place does a wonderful job of cooling things down, otherwise it would have been quite uncomfortable as temps were consistently in the 40s. I also enjoyed spending time with the other guests that I met there.
