Overview

Situated in a private game reserve bordering Namibia's flagship Etosha National Park, Ongava Lodge offers an authentic safari experience while providing great accommodation and service. This lodge is a comfortable base from which to explore Etosha but at Ongava you have the opportunity to enjoy exciting night drives and guided nature walks, activities which are not allowed within Etosha itself.

Game drives in both Etosha and Ongava offer you the opportunity to see large numbers of classic African animals such as elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe and zebra. Birding is also excellent in this part of Namibia with over 340 species - including 10 endemics - to be seen. Large herds of plains game concentrate around the waterholes in the June to October dry winter season, making for exciting game viewing, and the Ongava reserve is also home to both black and white rhino.

Rooms

Chalet

Ongava Lodge has 14 brick-and-thatch rooms, each with an en suite bathroom featuring a flush toilet, double hand basins, and indoor and outdoor showers.

On hot summer nights from about October to March you will appreciate the air conditioning of these rooms, which are also fitted with overhead ceiling fans. Each room has glass-fronted doors that lead out onto a private covered veranda.

Family Unit

Families on safari will appreciate the Family Suite at Ongava Lodge, similarly furnished as the other suites but boasting more room. There are two bedrooms, each with a bathroom, and the suite can comfortably accommodate two adults and two children.

Facilities

Situated on a tree-covered hill, Ongava Lodge offers beautiful views over waterholes and swaying grasslands from the main lounge, bar and dining areas.

These cleverly designed main areas are on split-level wooden decks to enhance the views and make for a wonderful refuge in between game drives.

On hot afternoons you can also take a refreshing dip in the lodge's swimming pool or visit the safari shop, which stocks a large variety of souvenirs and African-inspired gifts.

Dining

Start your day with a full English or continental buffet breakfast which is served before your morning game drive into Etosha, which lasts until about lunch time.

Picnics in the bush and lunches at the lodge are also part of the culinary offering at Ongava while your evening meal comprises a selection of international cuisine and local game dishes. Dinner at Ongava Lodge is served in the main dining area under thatch with a great views of the camp's waterhole or on the dining deck under the stars.

"Ongava has a fabulous setting. It is a lovely camp."

Sussosvlei was amazing.... more beautiful than expected. We also had a nice guide which made a big difference. I think 2 nights could be good enough since we did not do anything in the last day after the hot air balloon. The lodge is quite nice. I th ink the overall lodge organization was less impressive than Etosha. The hot air balloon was excellent and I would suggest it to everybody. It is a different perspective and you can see how immense the desert and the dunes are... the company you suggested was very nice, very knowledgeable and the landing breakfast quite good.

"A very nice dining area overlooking a watering hole. Room is too dark though. I don't recommend for those who are physically challenged as it's quite a hike down to the rooms and up again to the dining area."
