Overview

Plains Tented Camp is situated in a private concession within the Kruger National Park, and is built in true pioneer tradition, reflecting the ambience of a 19th century naturalist's rest.

Plains Tented Camp was constructed with 100% natural materials, and great care has been taken to preserve the pristine natural surrounds. The whole safari lodge is raised on stilts and solar power is used for all energy requirements.

The safari lodge overlooks the spectacular Timbitene plain; the best place to spot game is the wonderful private plunge pool. Set out each morning to track elephant and rhino on foot, and again in the afternoon. Or view game on professionally guided game drives, with the chance of spotting the Big 5.

Rooms

Standard Tent

Accommodation at Plains Tented Camp is in 4 explorer-style tents in an acacia knobthorn thicket. The tented rooms each have an en-suite bathroom and overlook the open plains.

Facilities

The canvas covered lounge tent and the dining room tent both open onto a wide wooden deck shaded by indigenous trees and featuring a traditional roaring camp fire. The deck is an ideal place to watch game move past the camp as you sip a sun downer, as is the refreshing plunge pool.

Dining

The meals at Plains Tented Camp are innovative, fresh and delicious.  Start your day with a steaming cup of coffee and a traditional rusk. After your morning bush walk return to a hearty brunch. High tea is served before your afternoon game spotting and a delicious dinner is served on your return; after the obligatory sunset cocktails

Plains Camp

Sandra Pritchard

'The walking safari really allowed us to get away from it all! No Internet or phone reception for two days and we didn't see a car or any other people. Whilst it was basic, it was more than comfortable and our guide couldn't have been more helpful. O ur night out in the bush, sleeping in the tree house with nothing but a mozzie net was a wonderful experience. We felt very privileged to be able to get close to nature. The cost of being so remote, on foot and with no external input from other guides did mean we where limited to the amount of big game we saw. It was whatever we managed to track or stumble across. However, we felt it was well worth the trade off getting so close to it all. We saw smaller animals such as the shy and elusive honey badger and pangolin. Both a real pleasure.'

"Rhino Plains Camp and the sleepout were a highlight of my trip. I was the only guest and so had the place and guides to myself. We did 30 kilometres of bush walking over three days."
