Sabi Sabi Selati Lodge
Per Person Sharing
Sabi Sabi Selati Lodge is set in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve bordering the Kruger National Park. Built along the original route of the long-abandoned Selati railway line, this small, intimate camp offers an authentic African safari in a famous Big 5 region. At night, Selati Lodge is illuminated by oil lamps which, combined with the vintage décor and early 20th century train memorabilia, creates a romantic, old-world atmosphere.
The game viewing in the Sabi Sands is world-class, and with the help of your local tracker and experienced ranger you have an excellent chance of seeing all the Big 5 plus rare predators such as cheetah and wild dog. Morning and late afternoon game drives take advantage of the times when animals are most active, and you will return to camp after sunset drinks via a spotlit drive in search of Africa’s fascinating nocturnal creatures.
Make a Positive Impact Through TravelVisit local communities and get a taste of their vibrant culture. From day one, Sabi Sabi has enjoyed a strong tie with its neighbours and employs many staff members from the nearby towns of Huntington, Lillydale and Justicia. When visiting Sabi Sabi, you can see how tourism helps the local communities preserve their culture and how you too can assist in changing people’s lives. |

Selati Camp is one of the smallest camps in the Sabi Sabi Game Reserve and is made up of only seven luxury thatched suites, each with en suite bathrooms and private alfresco shower and outdoor bathtub. The beds are draped with romantic mosquito netting and at night the suites are lit with flickering oil lamps (although you can also switch the electric lights on if they are needed) while the verandas allow you to survey your own corner of Africa in private.
The Presidential Ivory Suite is the choice of royalty and heads of state when they visit. This spacious suite is decorated in colonial-style and features original antiques, a net-draped 4-poster bed, private terrace, fireplace and a private plunge pool. The large en suite bathroom is particularly decadent. Those staying in the Presidential Ivory Suite also have exclusive use of a game viewing vehicle and dedicated game ranger.
Honeymooners staying in the Lourenco Marques Suite can expect a particularly romantic stay with every detail carefully considered. This special suite has a large, king-size bed and beautiful antique pieces and also features a large outdoor bathtub for bathing under African skies in complete privacy and is ideal for special occasions: expect to find flower petals and candles in your room upon your return from a night drive!
This charming safari lodge provides ample thatched lounge areas which extend out onto open and shaded decks arranged around a peaceful garden and the large lodge swimming pool.
Find a quiet spot with your book or binoculars and watch birds in the garden and animals passing the lodge.

For your first meal of the day, the chefs at Selati Camp prepare a typical South African breakfast which includes freshly baked breads, jams and preserves from the region. Lunch and dinner also comprise excellent cuisine, and meals are served on the decks built over the riverbed, around the roaring fire in the open-air boma or in the charming farmhouse kitchen.

With the greatest appreciation and from the bottom of our hearts, Anton and I truly enjoyed our safari and stay with the staff at Selati. Craig and Linde were so thoughtful, helpful, and knowledgeable. The staff was so incredibly kind and very humble.
We were thrilled to learn upon our arrival that we were upgraded to the Presidential suite. It was a magnificent space, complete with every little detail of home.
We truly appreciated that Linde welcomed and escorted us to our villa; showing us all the ins and outs and also letting us know that sometimes elephants and leopards like to take a drink of water from our private pool! Both Anton and I found that so special and very exciting!
After quickly unpacking our luggage we sat for lunch. No sooner did we have our first sip of wine, and Anton was discussing elephants, and behold, a large bull elephant appeared in the open space right in front of us! And, he wasn’t alone! The dry river bed that was directly below our lunch space filled with a herd of 20 more elephants all ranging in size from little ones to matriarchs. It was such an amazing experience!
We later joined Zeb and Craig for our first late afternoon safari. They were both so patient, and explained so much about the environment, about the animal habits, stories about the bush, history, and environmental factors. Craig is a natural professor; he has a true passion for his work and is just such a kind man. He also is an excellent driver. We navigated some very rough terrain and Craig took things slow and safe, always warning us to mind the branches or to hold on. This made for a very relaxing (and also exciting) experience.
Our first time out we were so fortunate to see a leopard. Craig followed her off road and she came so close to our vehicle, yet paid us no mind. We tracked her for about 30 minutes, and it was so exciting! I cannot describe the adrenaline you feel being so close to these animals!
We slept with our windows open (screens in place) and fell asleep to the sounds of the bush. Our first night in the pitch black we heard a rough saw type bark/growl and Craig told us it was the leopard.
The food presentation was so well done! I adored the thoughtfulness of the Chef and staff – they provided gluten-free meal options for me, (accommodating this request is sometimes challenging), but the Selati staff actually made it seem so natural, and it seemed any request no matter how small was received and completed with ease and graciousness. The care of the staff was simply lovely.
The entire experience was so wonderful. For the rest of our lives, we will have many stories and very special memories to share with our friends and family.
Thank you, Kelly-anne for your coordination efforts, checking in with us in a timely manner, and making sure we had everything so wonderfully arranged for this experience of a lifetime.

We all had a marvellous time on Safari. Sabi Sabi Selati was excellent.
Sabi Selati was equally pleasant, although a little “tame” for us. However, both the accommodation and the staff were wonderful and contributed to a very enjoyable time.
We had a fantastic time. Probably the most enjoyable experience I’ve had for years and years.
