Looking out across the grassy plains from among fever trees at the foot of Mount Kenya, Tambarare Camp, an A&K Sanctuary is the perfect vantage point to observe this 90 000 acres of unspoiled African landscape.
Spend days tracking lions; riding horses alongside northern and southern white rhino, Grevy's zebra and Jackson's hartebeest; spotting the Big 5 and other African favourites (giraffe, cheetah, hyenas) on game drives and guided bush walks; or visiting the resident hippos on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Guests who enjoy fitness activities can embark on a cycling safari, run a 5–7 kilometre (3–4 mile) trail through the conservancy, or join a one-hour coach-led class with a focus on functional fitness. Feel your stress melt away as you lay on your king-sized bed enjoying the panoramic views of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy through floor-to-ceiling windows as a curtain billows from the gentle afternoon breeze. The light-and-airy indoor space opens onto a private veranda overlooking the grassy plains of Laikipia, where you’ll have plenty of opportunity to embark on an ‘armchair safari’, spotting wildlife from the comfort of your chair. Back inside, Masai-inspired art in traditional blue – representing the sky and precious rainwater – hangs on the walls and leads you to the spacious en suite with its walk-in shower, double basins and changing area.
General Facilities
Relaxation and attentive 5-star service are at the heart of Tambarare Camp's offering. A unique boutique-meets-bush style is born out of the combination of teak floors and unique local touches with a tented ceiling and soft lighting. Reminiscent of the golden age but updated with contemporary style, the beautifully appointed main area takes its colour palette from nature. Sun-bleached wood and wicker come together with bursts of bold hues, dotted like wildflowers in the landscape. After adventurous days out in the African bush, guests can return to the secluded camp for sundowners before settling into one of the inviting sofas in the lounge, or retreat to the boma to hear thrilling tales of local legends from the camp's safari guides.

The chefs at Tambarare Camp impress with delicious dishes and freshly baked bread – the food so good, it's tough to believe you're in the middle of the bush. Staff was incredible. We had such an amazing time getting to know everyone (our new friends). Assistant GM Geoffery was outstanding. Met and visited with Anne Kent Taylor of A&K (owners). Staff planted a tree in our name sake, in memory of our visit, very moving and loving.
Proximity to lots of lions was amazingly close. Guide Anthony was amazing. Great Guide. Chef made an effort to come visit often. We had a chance to meet and thank all the kitchen staff.
Our trip was transforming from good to great because of all the wonderful East African people we’ve come to meet and become friends with. Rhino Sanctuary and Chimpanzee Sanctuary visits were great. Riding Horseback with ostrich, zebra and elans was outstanding.
