Overview of Sarova Shaba Game Lodge

Kenya

Shaba National Park forms part of northern Kenya's iconic parks and reserves. Its diverse ecosystem features stunning mountain ranges stretching off into the horizon and the life-giving Ewaso Nyiro River that cuts through the landscape—a vital source of water for the mostly dry terrain. The region is celebrated for being the home of the ‘Samburu Special Five'—Kenya's endemic wildlife species. These include the largest and rarest zebra species, Grevy's zebra, as well as the East African oryx, a threatened species of antelope that is protected in this region.

Sarova Shaba Game Lodge is perfectly positioned to bring you panoramic views of the river, lined with trees and inviting wildlife to sip at the cool waters. Elephants are sometimes spotted exploring the riverbanks, while crocodiles swim out to shore and bask in the sunlight. As a quieter reserve, it offers off-the-beaten-track game drives and camel safaris, free from the crowds of larger parks.

It is an ideal safari destination for families, groups, and couples, offering both private and shared experiences. Couples will enjoy romantic sunset meals by the river's edge, while kids can take part in curated child-friendly activities. Whether you are climbing hills or walking alongside massive gorges, your friendly guides are there to support and enhance your experience.

Dining

Sarova brings you freshly prepared farm-to-table meals, made with produce sourced directly from the on-site organic garden. Each meal is served in distinctive indoor and outdoor settings. Savour champagne breakfasts on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, marvelling as the sun rises over the shimmering waters. Lunch is best enjoyed in the gardens, beneath the tallest trees, surrounded by fresh air and tranquil birdsong. You might also choose a table at the patio restaurant, built on stilts to offer panoramic views of the river.

In the evenings, dining under the stars is a must. Enjoy convivial mealtimes in the open-air boma with fellow guests. Or, for a more romantic alternative, opt for private dining on the riverbed, where lantern-lit ambience and the soft crackling of a firepit bring the day to a close in the heart of the wild.

The oasis location is just magical! A really well-priced option for families, with lots of child-friendly activities. For the adults, definitely include a bush dinner or sunset drinks on the river!

The Sarova Shaba Game Lodge was a fantastic first game lodge – an oasis in the middle of a harsh environment. Great sitting on the river with resident crocodiles and cheeky monkeys.
