Overview of Satao Elerai Camp

Kenya, Amboseli National Park

Satao Elerai Camp is an exclusive and eco-friendly game lodge set on a 5 000-acre private conservation area on the border of Amboseli National Park. Apart from the region's abundant wildlife, the lodge's drawcard is its spectacular views of the Amboseli plains and majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Resident elephants are often seen from camp, and are frequently heard trumpeting in the night, while the floodlit watering hole alongside the lodge attracts a variety of game, especially in the mornings.

The lodge forms part of the community-owned Elerai Conservancy and you have the opportunity to walk alongside Maasai warriors in search of elephant, giraffe, zebra and other wild game as they herd their prized cattle to grazing grounds. When you are not on foot, embark on guided game drives into the Amboseli to see the park's mighty elephant residents, acclaimed for their large tusks, and seek out Africa's sought-after nocturnal creatures – like serval, genet, civet and aardwolf – on a night drive in the Elerai conservancy.

Elerai – beautiful, wonderful food, service, accommodation, and safaris. Wouldn’t change a thing – well it would be nice if the pool was heated (but no pool we tried to use was heated during the entire trip)! Kilimanjaro was beautiful, we were glad to have seen it.

We were deeply moved by everything we saw, and struggled to find the right words. You are wonderful and putting Amboseli first was so important – and Elerai Camp was so special. They made you feel welcomed and warm and safe! They were incredible. We now truly appreciate and understand the thought you put into the order you arranged our visit, as the drought is so sad and we did not realize the sadness as much seeing it first. We want to encourage others to be there for sure, they need to be supported in that area and everything we saw there was incredible and breathtaking. We did think were the order different and it was our last camp, it would have felt sad versus as special as it truly is. I could not see doing the trip any other way. We loved the staff and everyone and the camp at Elerai – it was great. The tents were wonderful, the food was great and I want to mention again what a great job they did to make sure you felt safe – everyone on the entire staff was wonderful at Elerai! The warriors were right there – right there to help and get you to and from everything safely, but never felt intrusive- it was perfect. Thank you!

Amboseli was a great place to start. Satao Elerai was very friendly, and it was such a luxury to have our own guide and driver for our whole stay. I liked that they were so eco-conscious and independently run and focused on community development. We saw a huge variety of wildlife very easily in Amboseli, and in the area highlands area around the camp itself. There were a lot of options at all the meals, and the staff were super friendly. It was cloudy the whole time until the day we left when we got the gorgeous view of Mt Kilimanjaro, luckily!
