Standard Garden Twin Room

Schulphoek Seafront Guest House offers only 15 double rooms, creating an intimate atmosphere. All rooms are en suite and fitted to meet international standards. There are nine luxury sea-facing rooms and six garden rooms.

Bathrooms have eco-friendly soaps and shampoos, warmed bath sheets and cosy slippers and gowns.

All rooms have mini-bars, safes, Wi-Fi connections, large HD televisions, fresh-air exchange technology, double-glazed windows and doors, and a choice between twin or king-sized beds, with nightly turn-downs. The art and furniture are all original mid-century pieces.

Other room types

There are four Superior Sea Facing Rooms, each named after a local fish: Galjoen, Steenbras, Kob and Dorado. All are spacious with separate dressing rooms and toilets, and are found on the first floor.

There is one Superior Sea Facing Triple Room, called Scallop, which has a child's room with its own shower and toilet attached to the main suite. It is also on the first floor.

The four Luxury Sea Facing Rooms, all on the ground floor, each walk out onto a patio that has uninterrupted ocean views. They are named after marine species: Crab, Crayfish, Urchin and Mussel.

There are two Luxury Garden King rooms, named Oyster and Limpet. Each has a patio onto the garden and an en suite bathroom with a bidet.

A child can be accommodated in the extra room connected to the Luxury Garden Triple, which has double vanities, a spa-bath, a walk-in shower and a bidet. It is named the Seahorse.

The Clam is the name of the Standard Garden Twin room, which leads out onto the garden, while the Standard Garden Doubles are named the Perlemoen (Abalone) and Alikreukel (Cockle).

The peaceful library is an ideal place in which to relax and curl up with a book after a day of exciting activities in the area.

The lounge offers a comfortable place to unwind and, during whale season (from about August), you will be able to spot southern right whales in the ocean from the comfort of the cosy couches.

Schulphoek aims to be as sustainable and eco-conscious as possible. With this is mind, solar power, hydronic air conditioning, thermal water heating and water harvesting systems have all been installed.

Dining is truly a memorable experience at Schulphoek, with an open-plan kitchen that allows you to see the resident chef at work. The chef is happy to cook with your tastes and interests in mind. Enjoy fresh seafood and seasonal shellfish, as well as venison.

Schulphoek has an impressive wine collection of over 7 000 wines, giving you a wide range of wine to choose from to accompany your meal. On arrival, you are served a complimentary 4-course meal and thereafter, dining will incur an additional charge. The guest house also serves full breakfasts, while salads and light lunches are available on request.

Our stay in Hermanus, at Schulphoek was beyond our expectations. Our host and hostess were most helpful and we will not forget the trips into their private wine cellar and the delicious meals prepared by their talented chef. We will never forget the delight of returning to our room each night to find lavender sprigs arranged on our pillows.
