Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge
Set on a ridge overlooking the vast Serengeti plains, the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge creates the perfect balance between African architecture and top-class comfort and style. Ideal for those interested in traditional architecture and design, this lodge is not only beautiful, but also ideally located to enjoy fascinating game drives in the bush.
You’ll have the chance to spot all the members of the Big 5 as you go on daily game drives and, if you visit at the right time of year, you might also witness the Great Migration – when thousands upon thousands of wildebeest and zebra trek across the plains to find greener pastures. The camp is adjacent to the renowned Western Corridor and Grumeti River, offering a truly magnificent landscape to call your home. Another memorable way to experience this wilderness is on a hot-air balloon safari, which ends with a champagne breakfast in the bush.

Rooms at the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge are designed to blend in with the surroundings and create a series of traditional circular dwellings, or rondavels that are widely spaced throughout the grounds and shaded by acacia trees.
Each rondavel have three rooms with one on the top floor and the other two at the bottom floor, each with their own balcony/terrace. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and feature an en suite bathroom decorated in natural colours and feature stone designs. The added space allows for the addition of an extra bed to accommodate a child.
The Serengeti Suite is a luxuriously appointed dwelling, set slightly apart from the other rooms to afford maximum privacy. The suite features a king-sized bed, mosquito nets and separate dressing area. The en suite bathroom offers marble finishings, while the elegantly appointed sitting room offers a nice place to relax and enjoy your uninterrupted views over the wilderness.
The pool overlooks the seemingly endless savannah plains that trademark the Serengeti and you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views of this incredible sight as you cool off after a morning of game drives.
The safari bar has a timber terrace that offers great views of your wild surrounds – ideal for a relaxing drink in the late afternoon or evening.
For those who want to relax and unwind completely, there is a range of relaxing beauty treatments on offer.
You can also pay a visit to the extensively stocked African gift shop and safari boutique.

The 2-tier dining room is styled to resemble the audience chamber of a tribal king with large papyrus-topped pillars that are embellished with traditional ‘Makonde’ carvings. This beautiful assembly place offers delicious meals to enjoy three times a day and you’ll be entertained by traditional music and dances in the evenings. Sit down to breakfast and lunch buffets that feature a range of international choices as well as many delicious vegetarian options. Dinner is a table d’hôte affair that is supported by a salad buffet, soup, entrée and dessert.
The majority of the meat, diary, fruits and vegetables are sourced from the surrounding communities. Bush dining can be arranged for breakfast, lunch or dinner and offers a special way to enjoy your delicious meals. You’ll be taken to a scenic spot where you’ll enjoy a private, romantic meal as you overlook the beautiful surroundings and listen to the sounds of the wild.
The central location of this lodge means great all-year round Serengeti game viewing. I liked the comfortable accommodation, buffet-style and very friendly staff.

Serengeti Serena is a good option for travellers who are looking at a mid range establishment and don’t want to compromise on the rooms, the area and all necessities of a good all round safari hotel!
Large & busy, but there were benefits to the scale. Again, we had been put in family accommodation, but this time we asked to be moved as the family accommodation. The hotel manager did this quickly & without any fuss.
The best packed lunch.

Moving on to Serengeti Serena, the hotel was a repeat of Manyara Serena and I am really impressed in general by the Serena chain.
Our highlight of the 2 counties visited was Tanzania, where we found the people very welcoming and the scenery hard to match. We had an excellent travel guide who provided both insight into all aspects of Tanzania from it’s people, culture, animal and plant life. We felt very secure in his ability to move us safely from one area to the next. Accommodations where better than expected. We especially enjoyed the Serengeti.
