Set in an exclusive-use concession area within the celebrated Pilanesberg National Park, Shepherd's Tree Game Lodge is a stunning safari destination offering romantic, secluded suites for honeymooners as well as fantastic family suites with child-minding services. Encircled by a ring of volcanic hills, the lodge commands magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. Like the rest of the Pilanesberg, the lodge is malaria-free, which makes for a carefree wilderness holiday.

Sheperd's Tree offers a creative menu of activities, including drumming workshops and specialist talks, along with superb game viewing in safari vehicles or on guided nature walks. The savannah grasslands boast both black and white rhino along with majestic sable antelope and buffalo. Elephant move soundlessly in the shade of lush woodland thickets, while lion, cheetah and spotted hyena are commonly seen. Sightings of more rare predators, like leopard and wild dog, are not infrequent. The child-friendly safari programme gives youngsters a safe and fun wilderness experience, while allowing Mum and Dad some grown-up rest and relaxation time.

For adventurers, quad biking, air-gun shooting and archery may all be enjoyed at Shepherd Tree’s sister lodge nearby, while the concierge will arrange transfers and activities at neighbouring Sun City, including golf on the championship course.

    Shepherd’s Tree is a modern, luxurious lodge situated in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. It is great for both families and couples as each suite is situated away from each other and therefore gives one privacy and exclusivity. On arrival there is a warm African drum welcome, making people feel special as they pull up at the front entrance.

    All rooms are big and comfortable, and there is also inter-leading rooms attached to a lounge perfect for families. Shepherd’s Tree offers bumble drives for kids who are too young to go on game drives. They try not to put couples and families in the same vehicle, so that couples who do not want to be around children don’t have to be.

    I must say this was one of the best experiences and trips we have taken. Shepherds tree, it was amazing. We were pampered and everything was perfect. The game drives were amazing. We got to see 5 lions on the hunt which was great. Our time the day before driving though was also great. We were charged by an elephant and baby, but managed to get vehicle out of the way. Ton's of fun. I would recommend to anyone your services and look forward to doing it again next year.

    Shepherds Tree lodge was fantastic – the rooms were amazing the food was excellent(too much), game drives great and the service was first class. We really cant find anything to complain about. As a matter of interest Shepherds Tree Lodge & Ivory Tree lodge are owned by the same company.

    The trip was amazing, the hotel is absolutely first class and the safari was great. I would really like to thank the hotel for looking after us, my girlfriend had an accident while there and the staff at the hotel could not have done more to help, especially Helaine (one of the safari guides) as it was only here 1st week working there.
