Standing on a staggering 60,000 hectares of untamed wilderness, Klaserie Game Reserve forms part of the greater Kruger National Park and is one of the largest privately owned reserves in South Africa. More than just stunning natural beauty with diverse wildlife, it is also home to Simbavati Waterside Lodge, a luxury property that offers guests an exclusive and private safari experience in Africa.

The lodge was conceptualised, designed and built to be a natural extension of the Klaserie wilderness from which it draws its inspiration. If you're seeking the perfect romantic getaway or family holiday, Simbavati Waterside is a luxury safari sojourn. The lodge features sophisticated décor, sublime cuisine and intimate spaces for absolute privacy.

The game viewing is as exceptional as the lodge itself. Being so close to the Kruger National Park, game drives are a great way to encounter many beloved species of wildlife that have made this region famous. T Simbavati Waterside also flanks a large dam in the southern region of the reserve,  where elephant, hippo and buffalo are drawn to quench their thirst,  all right in front of the lodge – a perfect armchair safari experience.

Luxury Suite

The intimate property offers a select number of luxury suites. All suites are designed around austerity, asymmetry, texture, depth of space, and the warm colours of nature and aged wood. Each suite features a king bed, ensuite bathroom with shower, double vanity and separate toilet, as well as a dressing area with ample storage space, outdoor shower, and a game viewing deck from which to observe the beautiful surroundings.

The bush-facing Suites each have a private gas-heated hot tub which acts as a plunge pool in the hotter summer months. The water-facing Luxury Suites have a private outdoor rain shower and a private deck overlooking the seasonal river.

General Facilities

When not out exploring the vast wilderness, there's plenty to do back at the lodge. From mid-morning breakfasts on the dining deck and dinners around the fire in the open-air boma to rejuvenating spa treatments, refreshing workouts in the fitness centres, and refreshing dips in the pool, all facilities are geared for ultimate pampering in the wild. No safari experience would be complete without watching the African sunset while sipping on sundowners on the deck and observing the riverbed and waterhole below. Don't forget to pick up a souvenir or two at the safari boutique before departing the lodge.

Every meal is an unforgettable experience at Simbavati Waterside. Your day starts with early morning tea or coffee before enjoying a mid-morning breakfast on the dining deck, overlooking the tranquil water. Lunch and afternoon tea can be taken on the deck as well or inside, whichever you prefer. Dinner is a special affair, where several nights are dedicated to a hearty, campfire-style meal, served underneath the African sky in an open-air boma.

    Simbavati Waterside was a beautiful camp with lots of special touches and surprises, like the staff serenaded me for my birthday, and a pop-up ice cream stand as we departed on an afternoon game drive. Or a special to-go bag of snacks for our plane ride home. We had some amazing sightings—the most extraordinary was the takedown of an elephant by a pride of 14 lions! We arrived on the scene shortly after the kill and were able to get very close as they shared their meal.
