Located in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, Tau Game Lodge is a thatched safari lodge overlooking a natural waterhole. Designed to reflect the natural surroundings, and built using local materials, the lodge offers contemporary style with an authentic safari atmosphere. Tau is an ideal location for a family safari.

The Madikwe Game Reserve is home to an impressive variety and density of wildlife species, including the Big 5. Explore this prime safari reserve on morning and afternoon game drives. Between activities, relax on the spacious wooden deck and enjoy the view of the waterhole and animals that come here to drink, or head to the spa for a relaxing massage. Tau Lodge also offers a range of activities for children of all ages.

The spacious Family Suite at Tau offers families with younger children the chance to stay together with an adjoining extra bedroom for the children.

Standard Chalet

Thirty rustic thatched chalets are spread out in U-formation on either side of Tau Game Lodge, offering excellent views of animals approaching the water from the opposite bank. Each chalet is equipped with an en suite bathroom and open-air shower, and has its own wooden game viewing deck, which allows one to experience the bush in privacy.

Deluxe Chalet

Tau Lodge also has spacious Deluxe Chalets which offer more space, an additional lounge area and a spacious private deck.

General Facilities

Tau Game lodge has a spa that offers an extensive range of treatment options to rejuvenate body and mind, as well as a swimming pool, located adjacent to the dining and bar areas, where you can relax at leisure.

A children’s club offers fun and educational activities for children of all ages. There is also a curio shop offering local crafts, ornaments and jewellery as well as children's toys and miscellaneous items.

Buffet breakfasts and lunches at Tau Game Lodge are generally served in the main building or on the veranda next to the plunge pool, and dinner is served in one of the cosy bomas under the stars, or in the lapa next to the main lodge.

    Tau Game Lodge. We had a fabulous time, the lodge was wonderful, with a very friendly staff and superb food. We thoroughly enjoyed the game drives and saw the ‘big five’ plus loads of other wildlife. Mind you, we only glimpsed the leopard’s tail as it was well hidden up a tree, but we can still claim to have seen it.

    The lodge was perfect for us. Large room – really nice view. The lodge is really nice as well with the grass where kids could run (as there is fences there is no danger for them). The food was always good.

    Tau Game Lodge was perfect for our needs. Madikwe was a beautiful reserve, and we were well rewarded with two amazing game drives full of lion, rhino, impala, water buffalo, kudu and zebra.

    Tau Game Lodge was excellent! A very nice lodge, beautifully situated around a waterhole with plenty of action going on! Good food, good and friendly service. Very nice small chalets with outdoor showers and balconies with a view. Maybe it was a little to big (60 guests) for our taste but since it was far from full that didn’t bother us at all! They more or less managed to arrange every meal at a diffrent location within the lodge, which was nice. The ranger, Gareth, was a really nice guy and extremely keen on doing a good job and I only have him and his dedication to thank for that I finally got to see the Wild Dogs.

    We had a great time. The location is stunning and the accommodation, food and service was first class. We were even given the family lodge instead of 2 separate lodges so we were all together – that was a great suprise. The organisation of the day with the drives and rest periods works really well and you were always greeted on your return from a drive with a drink or hot towel. The view out over the watering hole was amazing.
    I can honestly say that I could not fault any of the experience and would happily recommend Tau Game to both couples and families.
