This cosy and comfortable desert oasis has a breath-taking location on open grasslands that overlook the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft Mountains, with the Namib Desert in the distant west. At The Desert Homestead, you can spend your evenings enjoying fresh farm cuisine under part of Namibia’s dazzling International Dark Sky Reserve. Discover ancient meandering water courses and endless plains on horse-back or foot, or even in a hot-air balloon.

The Namib Desert is the oldest desert on earth and yet on closer inspection you will find that a surprising amount of life has adapted to survive here. The Desert Homestead is best known for its guided horse rides taken in the early morning or evening. Multi-day rides are also available during which you can explore this rugged landscape and overnight at romantic tented camps. Return to the lodge after your adventure for a friendly welcome, a refreshing drink and a sunset like only the desert can offer.

Thatched Chalet

Accommodation at The Desert Homestead is offered in rustic thatched chalets, set between the main lodge and the open grassland and at a discreet distance from each other. These 20 en suite chalets are all luxuriously decorated in pale linens and dark wood "riempie" furniture.

The chalets feature large single or double beds and en suite bathrooms with showers. The lights and fans are powered by a bank of wind and solar-powered batteries and all the lodge's soaps, shampoo and body lotions are environmentally friendly.

Suites have thatched roofs and private shaded terraces. The lodge is built on a small hillside on the grass plains allowing for lovely views from the main building and the suites. From the bar and lounge you can enjoy panoramic vistas, and relax under the sun terrace near the swimming pool. All energy is solar-generated. Other facilities and services include Wi-Fi, mobile phone reception, laundry, and a small gift shop.

The lodge is supplied with fresh farm produce, and staff will treat you to warm and personal service at the lodge restaurant. Breakfast and lunch packs can be arranged if you are heading out to catch the sunrise at Sossusvlei Dunes or will be out exploring through the day.
