Ubuntu Migration Camp

We loved Ubuntu. Everything was great. It was a good mix of lux and camping. The staff were fantastic. Our guide (Michael) was fantastic. We saw a ton. The food was simple but very good. We really liked the communal dinners so we got to meet a lot of people. The lounge area was really nice. If I had to pick this may be my favourite part of the entire trip!

The team at the Ubuntu Migration Camp in short order were like old friends and exceptional. We were curious about their culture and personal stories. They were equally inquisitive about our world. All of our transport drivers and guides were awesome. We clicked with all of them.

I love Ubuntu for the simple fact that you can experience an authentic Tented Camp, and wake up to the smells of hot chocolate, tea or coffee as you are roused from the sounds of the bush by your guides and the camp staff. Explore the Southern or Northern Serengeti for iconic scenes of open plains, panoramic views and of course thousands of Wildebeest if you are lucky in between the Big 5 and large antelope herds.

We had a great time. Ubuntu was perfect. We just missed the mass migration but nevertheless saw many animals including lions, cheetahs, leopard, serval, rhino with child, elephants etc. and marvelous landscapes.
All accommodations met our expectations and the staff was very friendly everywhere. Regarding the location and the food Ubuntu was excellent.

Ubuntu – This small camp was very special to us! Sleeping in a tent, listening to animal noises outside the tent at night was fun! Even using the bucket shower was just part of the camping experience! The view of the Serengeti from every tent is absolutely gorgeous ! We saw so many beautiful sunrises and sunsets from our tent! The kitchen staff made wonderful three course meals, which is a real accomplishment so far out in the bush. Our one full safari day out was packed with animal sightings- lions, cheetahs, rhinos, elephants, and the wildebeest migration ! Seeing the wildebeests circling on top of the cliff and then going back later to see them running down the cliff into the Mara River was totally amazing! Since it wasn’t the first crossing the crocs weren’t hungry (whew). This is a down to earth wonderful camp- friendly staff and very knowledgeable and educated guides! A real gem of a camp!

Ubuntu and the Northern Serengeti was a lovely end to our trip. The stunning vistas in that region are amazing and the animal life fabulous. Ubuntu was very nice, the food absolutely outstanding and we again loved eating at a group table. We found the tent to be adequate but not as comfortable as Porini. They are small and navigating with just another person is a bit challenging, especially on the uneven floors in the dark. The shower was so hot we could actually not get in but had we been there longer we would have figured that out. Also, I am not comfortable with boiled drinking water. It may be fine, but it is impossible to know without question that the water has been boiled long enough or at a hot enough temperature to be absolutely safe. So, I would have preferred bottled which was not easily available. I took some the second day from the jeep and noticed the third day that the supply was limited. I also didn’t want to ask for any during dinner since everyone else seemed okay with the boiled and I didn’t want to be difficult. The staff was engaging and delightful as they were everywhere.
The hot water bottles when provided were spectacular! The coffee served in the early mornings at wake up was delightful. The people, service and friendliness memorable. The variety of accommodations inspired. I would love to begin again…..perhaps sometime soon I will be able to return with our son.

Ubuntu was brilliant, staff and standards very high. Only issue was that on the penultiumate day, we were told that we may need to share with someone else. When we were booking i made it especially clear that i wanted us to be travelling alone. It turned out fine, but it is something that should be made clearer in the itinerary as it would have been very annoying.

This camp was A+. The location was on a vast plain overlooking a huge expanse, with hundreds o fwildebeest around us. The tents were like an upscale hotel, large and clean. The staff were inordinately friendly and helpful, the food was fantastic, the manager was reserved but professional and truly cared about the enjoyment of his guests. The best part of this place is that we were living in comfort in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by wildlife. We even did an afternoon guide walk among the animals.
