The Okavango Delta in Botswana is a natural wonderland where delicate dragonflies dart from green reed to pastel-pink lily, and tsessebe, sitatunga and red lechwe antelope move from island to island, watched closely by lions, leopards and crocodiles. Ideal for discerning families, Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge can tailor a safari for families with children.

One of the highlights at Xudum is the rooftop lookouts built atop each suite. By day, they offer sweeping views of the lagoon and beyond, while by night they are make for adventurous place for stargazing the Milky Way.

The lodge’s central lounge and dining areas are spaced over multi-layered decks and allow you to gaze out over the busy floodplain while sitting comfortably on chic, modern furniture. The outdoor dining area offers sweeping views of the plains and is an incredibly romantic space in which to savour the chef’s top-notch creations. Plump sofas, traditional basketware and tasteful objet create an ambiance of sophisticated calm and serenity. Activities are centred on the surrounding seasonal waterways of the Delta and include mekoro trips and motorised boat excursions as well as traditional 4x4 game drives and guided nature walks on the plains (with prior arrangement).

Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge

The trackers at Xudum were really good. Accommodation food and service all up to scratch. The safari at Xudum exceeded all expectations because of this sighting: We were having the obligatory drinks in the evening as the sun went down by a water pool . The table was set up, rug on the grounds, chairs for us and all the rest you know. Across the other side of the pool were three lionesses lounging around. We kept enjoying our drinks and snacks. They started to come some distance round the pool and got ever increasingly close. We all jumped back in the Land Rover as they approached. The guys had set up some paraffin lamps around the rug on the ground but not lit them yet. There were about six. The lions came up to the lamps, about five metres from us at most. The first lion played around with one lamp for a while then lifted it by the handle and went off with it! The second lion did the same a minute or two later and followed the first to a grassy spot nearby where they continued playing with them. The third lion, yes believe it or not, did the same but kept it to herself. We were all absolutely amazed. The lions played for quite a while till it was dark actually while we waited and then they went off to find some food. The guys rescued the slightly mangled lamps when it was safe to do so. My husband got a few shots but as it was so dark by then he will have to lighten them at home. Staggering it was. All good fun. Great safari.

"The service so personal – treated like royalty, welcomed like long-lost friends. Our room, out of this world, and our ranger - TH - was so knowledgeable. So many surprises organised for us – truly amazing."

I first wanted to let you know that our trip to Africa was the best experience of our lives. I didn't want to go home. Your planning was perfect and nothing went wrong. The people of Botswana were lovely and gracious. Our accomodations were great. We met some lovely people. The guides were outstanding. Food amazing. Surroundings beautiful. The animals in our first camp were phemononal.... lions leopards cheetahs etc. The delta was beautiful however my only criticism would be that people want to see animals and in the second two camps they were scarce. The third camp had a fire 3 weeks ago and 60 percent of there concession was burnt. I thought you should know that because it was a little disappointing however when we were on the water we went fishing - saw beautiful birds & animals etc.

The Xudum stay was clearly the most luxurious accommodation and again the service, food and facilities were tops. The guides were first class and went to considerable trouble to find animals and to provide all our needs and requests. Indeed, I found that all staff in the lodge was extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel 'at home'. I did like the complete upfront payment covering all food, alcohol and clothes washing, it really made us feel cared for.

The facilities at Xudum are amazing - it beats a luxury tent any day, and the elephants woke us up right at our window one night on their way to feed. The staff and manager, Mark, were superb. It was the most rustic of all the lodges (turning off the generators at 23:30 nightly), but we really felt like we were "way out there." The food everywhere was great! I especially enjoyed trying African game, like impala and kudu.
