Übersicht
Uganda may be famous for its mountain gorillas, but there is far more to the ‘Pearl of Africa' than one primate experience. This journey follows the Nile from its source towards Murchison Falls National Park before taking you south to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, combining active days with time to slow down at carefully chosen lodges.
Feel the exhilaration of white-water rafting on the Nile before following the river north to Murchison Falls National Park. Game drives, boat safaris and chimpanzee tracking reveal another side of Uganda's wildlife before you fly south to Bwindi. Here, trek through rainforest to spend an hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family, then slow the pace on a guided forest walk before returning for a massage.
Designed for travellers who want more from a gorilla trekking safari, this itinerary moves between river, savannah and rainforest, with each region bringing a new way to explore Uganda. Travel during the drier trekking seasons for generally easier forest conditions or extend your East African journey with Kenya or Tanzania.

Did you know the source of the Nile lies in Uganda? This morning, your driver will meet you at Hotel No. 5 for the approximately 2.5-hour journey towards Jinja and Lemala Wildwaters Lodge. Set on six hectares of private Kalagala Island in the middle of the Nile and close to its source, the lodge is reached only by boat, with the river's thundering rapids setting the scene for your next two nights.
Get straight into the action with a white-water rafting adventure. Spend around four to five hours tackling Grade 4 and 5 rapids alongside expert guides, with quieter stretches offering time to swim and appreciate the river scenery. A riverside lunch and refreshing drinks round out several hours on the Nile.
The following day is yours to enjoy at a gentler pace. Indulge in a spa treatment, go horse riding, fishing or birdwatching, or dial the adrenaline back up with bungee jumping. You can also do very little at all – find a favourite spot at the lodge, unwind and watch the Nile rush past.

Leave the rushing waters of the Nile behind – although not for long! Transfer back to Entebbe International Airport and fly to Pakuba Airstrip, where you'll be met for your transfer to Nile Safari Lodge. Set within Murchison Falls National Park and overlooking the Nile, this riverside lodge places you within one of Uganda's best-known wildlife regions.
Your first adventure takes you to the top of Murchison Falls, where the mighty Nile pushes through a narrow gorge before crashing into the river below. Follow the trail and cement steps towards the falls, keeping an eye out for colourful birdlife, olive baboons and monkeys along the way. The approximately 45-minute hike rewards your efforts with views across the falls and surrounding landscape, as well as the chance to experience the power of the Nile up close.
Over the following days, discover just how varied a Uganda safari can be. Head out on game drives, cruise the Nile by boat and venture into Budongo Forest in search of chimpanzees. There may also be opportunities for rhino trekking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and a picnic brunch near the falls, bringing wildlife, river adventures and primate sightings together within the same journey.

Informationen zur Reiseroute
After one last morning beside the Nile, fly from Pakuba to Kihihi Airstrip and continue by road towards Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – home to almost half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Your base is Erebero Hills, where just eight glass-fronted suites are tucked into the hillside overlooking the ancient forest.
The following morning, step beneath Bwindi's canopy with experienced trackers and guides in search of a habituated gorilla family. Take in the mist, birdsong and quiet anticipation as you trek through the rainforest before spending an hour observing these primates as they feed, play and interact.
Beyond the gorillas, an included guided forest walk offers the chance to experience Bwindi at a slower pace. It's a feast for the senses – listen to the calls of forest birds, breathe in the earthy scent of the rainforest and pause to notice the plants, insects and smaller details easily missed along the way. After a day on the trails, return to Erebero Hills for your included 30-minute massage, a welcome treat for tired muscles, before simply switching off and soaking up the forest views.

This is a really unique way to experience Uganda, combining the source of the Nile, White Water Rafting, hiking Waterfalls and combining some of the country's most unique and visually beautiful places. Erebero is a particular highlight with its locally designed architecture, distinctive location in the heart of Bwindi, and genuinely off-the-beaten-track feel. Uganda doesn't have quite the polish of destinations like Kenya or South Africa, but that is part of its charm. The warmth of the people and sense of discovery make it feel much more authentic and adventurous. Ending with the gorillas is, of course, the perfect finale to the trip.
