Noteworthy Upgrades: Bringing Properties into 2026

The safari world is constantly evolving with exciting properties popping up around Africa, but sometimes the remodel or rejuvenation of a space can feel just as poignant and exciting as an entirely new build. Whether it's a facelift of an already incredible space, or a complete knock down with a unique new build in its place, here are a few camps and lodges waiting to be rediscovered in 2026.

Shisake and N’Weti

Sandringham Private Game Reserve, Limpopo Province

Now proudly part of the Sabi Sabi Collection, discover the renewed Sandringham Private Game Reserve. Tucked into the renowned Timbavati region, this naturally ecologically rich area is being restored to its former glory – a project that has been underway since 2022. 

Two new lodges will open their doors in 2026 with a focus on regenerative ecotourism: Shisaka Camp and N'Weti Camp promise unspoken luxury, intimacy, and exceptional wildlife sightings, including the infamous Big 5, with minimal vehicle traffic.

RockFig Safari Lodge

Timbavati Private Reserve, South Africa

Another true Timbavati gem, the reimagined RockFig Safari Lodge features just a handful of exquisitely crafted suites overlooking the river. Embracing the concept of indoor-outdoor living, each suites' spacious lounge opens out onto a generous deck and private heated plunge pool – perfect for the ultimate armchair safari. 

Game drives are an intimate affair with custom vehicles designed to suit just four guests. These well-equipped vehicles have an answer to almost every comfort request while expert guides and trackers take the helm to uncover the secrets of your surroundings. Children of all ages are welcome on drives, making for unforgettable family excursions. Between safari-based activities, indulge in excellent cuisine using locally sourced ingredients, treat yourself to a soothing spa treatment, or maintain routine at the on-site gym.

Mara salvaje

Reserva Nacional de Masai Mara, Kenia

Formerly the known and loved Little Governors' Camp, the newly re-appointed and reimagined Mara salvaje is an exciting new property in the Mara Triangle. Featuring unparalleled access to both sides of the Mara River, guests can expect habit diversity, varied wildlife experiences, and fewer crowds. Its position also ensures a prime location for the Great Wildebeest Migration, a truly unforgettable sight. 

The rebuild focused on creating a more intimate, low impact space while maintaining the camp’s East African roots and the elegant, grounded feeling it was known for. Sophisticated tented suites provide a tranquil, comfortable space to unwind while the on-site spa is ideal for additional relaxation. Soak in the scenery from the main pool or pursue your passion in the inspiring photographic studio.

Shompole Lodge

Shompole Conservancy, Kenya

A member of Great Plains Conservation, the all-new Shompole Lodge will form part of their esteemed Réserve Collection. Designed by founders Dereck and Beverly Joubert, the lodge aims to offer barefoot luxury on the dramatic edge of the Great Rift escarpment. 

While luxury and exceptional experiences are top of mind for guests, an equal amount of focus has been channeled to local communities and ongoing conservation. More information is yet to be released in the lead up to its unveiling.

Albergue del río Toro

Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve, Limpopo Province

An anticipated Newmark Hotels & Reserves release is the new and improved Albergue del río Toro. Set on the Makhutswi River, the lodge finds itself in prominent Big 5 country. Following an extensive refurbishment and redesign under Newmark, Toro will feature just a handful of suites for a restful, exclusive escape. 

Steering away from the beaten path, game drives here will not be restricted to roads and instead focus on off-track exploration to discover the ‘unseen' side of the bush. With the region's conservation focus, guests are privy to some rare and unexpected sightings alongside safari heavy hitters.

Laba Ngorongoro Lodge

Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania

Formerly the site of Rhino Lodge, the longest established property on the Ngorongoro Crater rim, the new Laba Ngorongoro Lodge promises the same superb location, with an all-new property. With a steadfast commitment to conservation, Laba Laba has dedicated 30% of profits to conservation and humanitarian programmes in Tanzania. 

The lodge itself enjoys striking views of surrounding forests and mountains. Set right on the rim, and close to the park entrance, guests can enjoy early and quick access to the crater floor where an abundance of wildlife awaits. Embrace full-day game drives, half-day excursions to Masai villages and the Oldluvia Gorge, walking safaris, or even a bird's eye perspective from a hot air balloon. While Emboo is not necessarily a new property, it has transitioned to the Asilia Africa portfolio. One of the most exciting aspects of Emboo Camp is its eco-conscious and sustainable ethos, relying solely on solar power 24/7. Special mention to their ‘sunshine safaris' – picture trusty Land Rovers and Land Cruisers brought into the modern world with the latest technology ensuring silent, electric-powered safaris, taking you even closer to your surroundings. 

Found in the wild wonder of the Masai Mara, allow excitement to build at the prospect of witnessing the Big 5 and the famed Great Migration. Singita Elela

Delta del Okavango, Botsuana

Singita, a brand known for its luxury properties in Africa, is set to add another feather to its cap, Elela. Meaning ‘to flow' in Setswana, the name is perfect for its position on Botswana's iconic Okavango Delta. As experts in understated opulence, Elela is touted to be an oasis amidst the meandering waterways mirroring its natural ebb and flow.

Guests enjoy access to one of the region's largest concessions, which promises lush landscapes and intriguing ecosystems brimming with wildlife. A host of potential activities await, from classic game drives and intimate bush walks to mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) and boating excursions, yoga, stargazing, and even fishing.

Thitaka Lodge

Bwabwata National Park, Namibia

Newmark Hotels and Reserves proudly presents its debut property in Namibia. Settled on the glorious Kwando River in the heart of Bwabwata National Park, Thitaka finds itself along a popular elephant corridor, allowing ample opportunities to witness Africa's giants.

Erebero Hills

Bosque Impenetrable de Bwindi, Uganda

Erebero Hills, meaning “a place you can see far” is aptly named with sprawling views across the valleys and hills of Bosque Impenetrable de Bwindi. Este glorioso alojamiento ecológico se construirá principalmente con bambú de origen local, un conocido recurso renovable para reducir su huella. Su innovadora forma imita su entorno para crear el elemento más orgánico del paisaje.

Como parte del proyecto, se está llevando a cabo una impresionante labor de reforestación, con la plantación de 25.000 árboles autóctonos. Esto servirá de amortiguador del parque, pero también permitirá a los batwa locales preservar su conexión con la tierra. La actividad principal aquí será sin duda el trekking con gorilas, una experiencia realmente excepcional. También se trazarán desde el lodge una serie de deliciosos paseos por las cascadas cercanas, recorridos por las plantaciones de té y excursiones para conocer a la comunidad batwa.

Sediba Sa Rona

Khwai Concession, Okavango Delta

As the newest addition to the Desert and Delta Safaris collection, Sediba Sa Rona almost needs no introduction. Its position in the Okavango's Khwai Concession gives guests access to one of Botswana's largest concentrations of wildlife.
