Airport Planet Lodge is well suited to the quieter moments before or after safari. The gardens and birdsong create an immediate sense of calm, while the pool area, set towards the back of the property, is a lovely place to cool off with views towards Mount Meru. If you have a few hours to spare, a massage can help ease travel fatigue, while the airy lounge and bar offer comfortable spaces to unwind before the next leg of the trip.

There's also a practical ease to staying here. Airport transfers, pre-flight shower facilities, room service and a few useful extras such as a curio shop and laundry services all help smooth the edges of travel. Add in a small fitness centre and leafy spaces to wander, and the lodge offers more than just a bed for the night. It's simple, yes – but thoughtfully so, and all the more appealing for it.

The restaurant overlooks the gardens and offers both indoor seating and a terrace shaded by a woven bamboo roof, creating a setting that feels more lodge-like than purely functional. There's also a fully stocked bar in the main building and a poolside bar for something more casual between meals.

Whether it's a quiet breakfast before an early transfer, a light lunch during a layover or a simple dinner after touching down in Tanzania, meals here are straightforward and restorative. With a more sociable, open-air feel than many airport stays, it's an easy place to settle in before, after or during your adventure.
