Spend eight wonderful days tracking chimpanzees and gorillas through some of Uganda's renowned reserves.

Pass through the town of Fort Portal and the Crater Lakes region on your way to the Kibale Forest National Park, where you will have the opportunity to track a number of primates, including intelligent and energetic chimpanzees.

Enjoy the spectacular views of the Rwenzori Mountains on the way to the Queen Elizabeth National Park, and be intrigued by the local culture and agile tree-climbing lions.

Day 1: Travel through Ugandan tea plantations

Day 1: Travel through Ugandan tea plantations | 2 Nights

Up arrow
Uganda

Leave the Ugandan capital of Kampala and drive to Fort Portal, a lovely town resting in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon, and famous for its tea plantations. Enjoy a packed lunch along the way as you pass the Crater Lakes region on your way to the secluded Primate Lodge within the Kibale Forest National Park.

Day 2: Go chimp tracking in Kibale

Start the day with some sensational chimpanzee tracking in the heart of the Kibale Forest. The reserve boasts the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa, providing sightings of wild chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys and the black-and-white colobus monkeys on your guided nature walk. After a hearty lunch, transfer to Bigodi to visit a local community initiative - the Bigodi Wetland Walk. Be on the lookout for primates and the rare great blue turaco, one of the 138 bird species found in the swamp area.

Day 3: Walk through the Rwenzori Mountains | 2 Nights

Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Today you head out on a guided walk in the foothills of the majestic Rwenzori Mountains. Learn about the local culture on your walk and enjoy a glimpse of village life when you meet with some of the community members, including a traditional 'witchdoctor'. Transfer to the beautiful Queen Elizabeth National Park for some wildlife viewing, including sightings of warthog, elephant, buffalo and waterbuck. Enjoy the rest of the day relaxing on your private veranda at the Mweya Safari Lodge viewing some of the incredible birdlife.

Day 4: Cruise on the Kazinga Channel

Wake up early for an exciting morning game drive through the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Along the way, you’ll visit the mating ground of the Ugandan kob antelope. Scout the bush for lion, elephant, buffalo and other wildlife including the topi and bush pig, before returning for a relaxing leisurely lunch at camp.In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. Be entertained by the hippos lazing on the bank and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for elephants and buffalo along the shoreline.

Day 5: Search for tree-climbing lions | 2 Nights

Bwindi National Park, Uganda

After breakfast, travel to the south of the Queen Elizabeth National Park for a short game drive. Search the region known as Ishasha for its famous tree-climbing lions, an unusual characteristic among these big cats. Continue through traditional villages, with their homesteads dotted on the hills of the countryside, as you travel to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Spend the afternoon stretching your legs as you set out from Mahogany Springs Safari Lodge on a scenic forest walk in the Bwindi Forest.

Day 6: Track mountain gorillas in Bwindi

Today you trek through the dense rainforest of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in your quest to find the majestic mountain gorillas.
Trekking gorillas can sometimes involve walking for long periods through often muddy conditions. The reward, however, is well worth the effort as you spend up to an hour watching these primates in their natural environment.

Day 7: Return to Entebbe | 1 Night

Today you leave the forests of Bwindi behind and make your way back through the country villages and rolling hills to Entebbe. Keep an eye out for zebra, impala and other plains game as you pass through Lake Mburo National Park, on your way to the Equator. You’ll enjoy lunch en route before continuing on to Entebbe where you spend the night at the Protea Hotel Entebbe. Head out to experience the vibrant night life of this Ugandan city.

Day 8: Fly home with unforgettable memories

Enjoy breakfast before transferring to the Entebbe Airport for your international departure flight.
