  • See the annual zebra migration (about February to April)
  • Land- and water-based game viewing
  • Bush walks and mokoro expeditions
  • Superb mobile camping in complete comfort
  • Maximum of six guests – all have 4x4 window seats
  • Excellent guide who will stay with you for the entire trip

While not as famous as Chobe, Nxai Pan National Park (pronounced ‘nigh’) is a gentle gem in Botswana’s wildlife crown and is the scene of the annual zebra migration, a dramatic event triggered by the rainy season. A once-arid landscape blooms vividly into life and zebras arrive in their thousands to take advantage of the plentiful grass and water. This itinerary has been specially designed to make the most of the migration between February and April, and is perfect for small groups or travellers with a sense of adventure.

The other half of this trip sees you camping in the Okavango Delta, one of the most magical spots in all of Africa. Moremi Game Reserve is highly regarded for its superb sightings and the Nxabega concession offers you the chance to spot plenty of water birds.

Mobile camping strips away extras like air conditioning and Wi-Fi to leave you with an ‘up-close-and-personal’ experience of the bush. All tents have en suite bathrooms with flushable toilets and bucket showers, while a charming dining area is set up at each camp under a tree or gazebo to tuck into freshly prepared and endlessly varied meals, all with the possibility of an elephant or two casually strolling through camp!

Detailed breakdown

Days 1-2: A warm Okavango welcome | 6 Nights

Up arrow

After jetting into Maun, you will be met by your knowledgeable and experienced guide who will fly with you and the rest of the party (the tour can accommodate a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests) on the short flight by light aircraft to a private concession in the Moremi Game Reserve. Named after famed Chief Moremi, the area is known for its excellent lion and leopard sightings.

The Okavango Delta is alive with lush vegetation, swaying ilala palms, glistening waterways and the call of far-off African fish eagles. Your days will be spent on morning and afternoon game drives (each guest is guaranteed a window seat in the vehicle), and on thrilling bush walks under the protective guidance of your ranger.

Days 3-4: Dwarfed by Nxabega

Up arrow

You will return to the Moremi airstrip after breakfast for the short flight to the famous Nxabega concession. The light planes fly low enough for you to spot elephants and buffalo from above, and to occasionally be on the same level as herons and storks winging their way from one side of the Delta to the other.

Once again, your camp and its dedicated staff will be waiting with cold drinks and scented refresher towels when you alight from the game-drive vehicle. Nxabega is known for its water-based activities, like sunset mokoro rides, but these may be amended seasonally based on the water levels.

Days 5-6: Delightful Nxai Pan

Up arrow

Your last two nights in Botswana will be spent in Nxai Pan National Park. From Nxabega, the pilot will return you and your guide to Maun, from where you will be drive to the pans. Although the landscape may seem very different to the Delta, there is the same abundance of wild- and birdlife, all taking advantage of brimming waterholes for when the dry season arrives.

Depending on the time of year, you may be lucky enough to find a mega herd of migrating zebra who will cover the grasslands with their dazzling black-and-white pelts.

Day 7: Farewell Botswana!

Up arrow

After a week packed with exciting activities and no doubt memorable sightings, you will be driven from Nxai Pan back to Maun for your flight home.
