Overview

Walking safaris offer a completely different perspective to a classic safari. With a trained guide leading the way, you leave the game-drive vehicle at camp and set off the way humans have for thousands of years: on foot. The slower pace lets you appreciate nature's finer details and all your senses really come into play. This 12-day itinerary is designed to balance exciting walking expeditions in Tanzania with superb Wildebeest Migration viewing and exhilarating fly-camping.

You kick off in Arusha where you walk the base of Mount Kilimanjaro with a Maasai guide. Arusha is the safari gateway to Tanzania and, from here, it is a short flight to Tarangire National Park, which is known for its massive elephants. Your next stop will be the Ngorongoro Crater area where you will stay on a working coffee farm in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Then it is off to the big one: Serengeti National Park, the country's flagship reserve.
