Detailed breakdown

Days 1-2: Visit the Hlane Royal National Park | 13 Nights

Up arrow

Depart Johannesburg and travel through the scenic province of Mpumalanga until you reach the border to the Kingdom of Swaziland. Crossing the border, drive through the countryside to Hlane Royal National Park, home to lion, elephant, white rhino and exceptional birdlife.

This 30 000ha nature reserve offers a wide variety of optional activities and excursions and you can spend the next day enjoying game drives, hikes and a rhino walk. Sit back and watch traditional Swazi dancing before you enjoy dinner.

Days 3-4: Explore the waters of Praia do Tofo

Up arrow

Leave Swaziland behind as you cross into exotic Mozambique. Travel north along the ocean and admire the beautiful vistas of the Mozambique coast. Arrive at your camp in Praia do Tofo in the evening and spend the next day taking in and experiencing these idyllic surrounds.

If you're not swimming in the clear blue Indian Ocean or relaxing on the pristine beaches, you can spend your time taking a closer look at the reefs as you go snorkelling and diving in these magnificent waters. Tofo is the ideal place from which to view the whale shark (seasonal) - the world's largest fish.

Days 5: Explore Vilanculos

Up arrow

Continue your journey north, stopping at a local craft market for a bit of souvenir shopping before reaching the premier destination of Vilanculos. Spend the night in this vibrant town before heading off to the world-renowned Archipelago in the morning.

Days 6-7: Explore the Bazaruto Archipelago National Park

Up arrow

Sail out to the beautiful islands in this magnificent area on a traditional dhow and keep your eyes peeled as you may spot dolphins on the way. Spend your days snorkelling, swimming, and relaxing in these idyllic surroundings. The evening of day 6 will be spent at a restful camp on the mainland. On day 7 after some more snorkelling you will return to Vilanculos.

Days 8-9: Laze in the sun at Barra.

Up arrow

Continue your journey as you head through the spectacular coconut plantations to the old Portuguese settlement of Inhambane. With a rich history of slave trade, this coastal town offers a much quieter holiday experience, giving you the next two days to lounge on these tranquil, white beaches. Your campsite opens directly onto the sand, making it the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate.

Day 10: Head to the capital of Maputo

Up arrow

Today you will travel south to the capital of Maputo. Sights worth visiting here include the Fort of Nossa Senhora da Conceicao and the Central Railway Station. Return after your tour to the campsite which is situated outside of Marracuene, a small village to the north of Maputo.

Days 11-12: Spot the Big 5 in Kruger

Up arrow

Return to South Africa today as you cross the border and make your way to the world-renowned Kruger National Park. Spend the next two nights in this premier conservation area and go in search of Africa's Big 5. Early morning and afternoon game drives will bring you to the animals when they are at their most active, while optional night drives will give you the opportunity to see some of the nocturnal animals.

Day 13: See wildlife rehabilitation in action

Up arrow

Explore the greater Kruger area today and pay a visit to the Mohololo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre where orphaned and injured animals are nurtured back to health and strengthened before they are released back into the wild.

The tour was quite good - the two Nomad staff were excellent and very accommodating, however, I have previously had a quite 'average' experience with Nomad on the Jozi-Vic Falls trip, therefore I was slightly hesitant going with them again. Fortunately, the two staff resurrected the image of Nomad and ensured that the trip was enjoyable for all. We had a small group which was actually much, much better than a large one (although, I'm assuming not so good for their profit margins). I'll be honest - the only reason I booked through you guys, and not Nomad directly was that you waived the credit card fees - so you should definitely pass this feedback onto your superiors that it is a great selling tool :)
