Zambia’s Luangwa Valley is one of Africa’s most rewarding wildlife destinations and this is your chance to explore two different areas of it. Highly recommended for seasoned safari-goers and wildlife photographers and enthusiasts, this affordable tour opens with three nights at Flatdogs Camp, set next door to the entrance to South Luangwa National Park. It is a destination renowned for its game viewing, especially during the mid-year dry season when animals are concentrated in huge numbers at the Luangwa River. Home to large populations of elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe, the South Luangwa is a noted predator paradise and your guide will be on the lookout for lion, leopard, cheetah as well as spotted hyena and wild dog.
You will sit back on morning and afternoon game drives as well as spot-lit night drives; the South Luangwa is one of the few national parks where this exciting activity is allowed, and you have the opportunity to explore on foot too, in the company of your guide and armed ranger.
Then it is on to the little known and even less-visited Luambe National Park where your accommodation – Luambe Camp – is the only one in the entire park. Built on the banks of the Luangwa River, this tented accommodation has amazing views and one of the river’s biggest pods of hippopotamus right in front of camp. You have three full days to discover the park, enjoying exclusive sightings of Africa’s most iconic animals as well as some of its rarer and more elusive ones at the camp’s floodlit waterhole. There is a final night back at Flatdogs before returning via light aircraft flight to Lusaka.
