This 8-day Botswana exploration allows you to experience an authentic mobile camping safari and then treat yourself to luxury at an award-winning lodge in the Okavango Delta. You begin in the private and exclusive Khwai Concession, located just north of the Okavango Delta. The centerpiece of this landscape is the Khwai River, where wildlife congregates in high concentrations. Staying at a mobile camp, you will leave as light a footprint as possible, and are invited to experience the special harmony that exists between Khwai’s community and wildlife.

After four nights, a scenic flight delivers you into one of Southern Africa’s most iconic natural landmarks, and the world’s largest inland delta, the Okavango. Here you will stay on the only lodge on Nxaraga Island, within a permanently flooded wetland. The following three days are spent exploring islands, riverine forests and reed-lined channels by canoe and motorboat in search of elephant, buffalo, giraffe and rare aquatic bird- and wildlife.

Days 1-5: An authentic camping adventure

Detailed breakdown

Days 1-5: An authentic camping adventure | 4 Nights

Up arrow

Landing at Maun International Airport in Botswana, you will connect to a scheduled light aircraft flight to the Khwai region, just north of the Moremi Game Reserve. At the airstrip, a warm greeting kicks off your adventure and you will be transferred to a beautiful, hand-selected location in the Khwai Concession where your mobile camp has been set up for a 4-night stay.

Mobile tented camps offer an authentic and down-to-earth safari experience in untouched surroundings, and fully furnished Meru-style tents provide all the necessary amenities including a comfortable bed with crisp white linen and an en suite bathroom with a safari bucket shower. Your exclusive-use campsite means you are first out on morning game drives (great for predator sightings like lions settling down after a night’s hunting) and last back at night (perfect for finding nocturnal animals like leopards and honey badgers on the move).

You will also explore on foot, led by your skilled and knowledgeable safari guide. Community visits are another way of connecting to this incredible part of Botswana. Evenings are spent enjoying lantern-lit dinners, and drinks around the campfire.

Days 5-8: Deeper into the Delta | 3 Nights

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Leave the charming campsite behind and bid farewell to the Khwai River on a scenic flight that takes you into the heart of the Okavango Delta. The following three nights are spent at Camp Okavango, an award-winning lodge set on a remote island in the permanent wetlands of the Delta. The camp has just 11 luxury safari suites, built on raised wooden platforms, each with its own private deck and indulgent en suite bathroom. At the main camp are two fire pits, a rim-flow swimming pool and several viewing decks for game viewing by day and star gazing by night.

This region of the Okavango Delta offers water-based safari activities throughout the year. Spend your days exploring islands and channels on a traditional mokoro (a canoe guided by your ranger), or travel further afield by motorboat. Additional activities include guided nature walks and specialized birding safaris.

On your final morning, you will transfer for a scheduled charter flight to Maun International Airport for onward travel arrangements.
