Day 1: Welcome to paradise

Mahe Island, Seychelles
Detailed breakdown

Day 1: Welcome to paradise | 5 Nights

Up arrow
Mahe Island, Seychelles

On landing at Seychelles International Airport on Mahé Island, a representative will meet you and transfer you to Maia Luxury Resort & Spa. The drive there takes in the luxuriant tropical scenery of the island, coupled with breath-taking views of the azure ocean lapping its shores. It is no wonder that early explorers thought that they had discovered the Garden of Eden when they found these islands!

Arriving at Maia, you are transported to another world. On its own private peninsula, lush tropical gardens filled with bright flowers conceal thatched villas that overlook a pristine, white-sand beach, gently lapped by crystal-clear waters. You meet your personal butler, who escorts you to your exquisite villa, complete with an awe-inspiring view over the water: whether you have chosen to be on the beach or in the jungle-clad seclusion of the hillside, you are guaranteed a view to enchant you at every moment of the day. Slipping off your shoes, you settle into the sublimity of the moment, allow the gentle sea breeze to caress you, and dip your toes into your infinity pool.

Maia Luxury Resort & Spa is where you can be as active or as relaxed as you choose. A host of water sports and activities are on offer if you are feeling energetic, or you can simply indulge in exquisite treatment therapies at the spa.

Your butler ensures your every need is taken care of, from arranging activities to organising your meals, whether you choose to take them in the privacy of your villa, on the beach or at the delightful Tec Tec Restaurant.

Day 2: Visit the Islands

Up arrow

After a delicious breakfast, you set off for the Special Nature Reserve of Cousin Island. The cruise boat moors offshore, and you are transported to shore by the warden’s boat to ensure against contamination of this delicately reconstructed ecosystem, which was created in 1975 to preserve several endemic bird populations, most notably the Seychelles warbler. After wading onto the beach like a true explorer, a guide takes you on a tour of the island’s fascinating and varied habitats. Mangrove forest along the shoreline gives way to a gentle slope leading to a plateau that is a vital breeding ground for shearwaters and bridled terns. As you wander through this tropical paradise, red-pouched frigatebirds swoop overhead, and the forest resounds with birdsong from sunbirds, blue pigeons and turtle doves.

Returning to the cruiser, you set off for Curieuse Island. After a delicious barbeque lunch served on the beach, you are able to explore the island in search of the curious Coco de Mer palms, Aldabra giant tortoises and the extremely rare Seychelles black parrot, which is found only here and on Praslin Island.

The next stop is off the tiny island of St Pierre, where you don a mask and snorkel and slip over the side into a shimmering world of corals and brightly coloured tropical fish of every description. You drift over a marine landscape of indescribable variety, marvelling at the sheer diversity of life, and the incredible colours of the reef’s inhabitants.

Day 3: Maia magic

You have the day to do as you wish: whether relaxing on the beach, taking a kayak out over the crystal clear water or exploring the area by bicycle, the gentle charm of the Seychelles will work its relaxing magic on you.

Day 4: Praslin & La Digue Islands

Up arrow

Today you head out across the waters again to visit Praslin and La Digue Islands. Praslin is home to the utterly beautiful Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve, which inspired early visitors to describe it as the Garden of Eden. The lush tropical landscape is dotted with the curious Coco de Mer palms, luscious wild orchids and rich with the song of endemic birds. This ancient landscape is dominated by luxuriously rampant tropical growth and, as you wander the walkways, you keep an eye out for a sighting of the Seychelles bulbul and black parrots. Next, you visit the famed Anse Lazio beach, which is probably the most photogenic in the world.

Crossing the strait to La Digue, there is the likely possibility of encountering dolphins skimming the wake of the boat - an exuberant and uplifting experience to watch as they dart and cavort through the water with effortless grace and speed. Visiting the island is like stepping back in time; very few private cars exist, and the pace of life is generally at the speed of an ox-cart or bicycle, which is how most of the populace get around. The L’Union Estate gives you a fascinating insight into the varied history of the island, where Aldabra giant tortoises wander among copra sheds and a refurbished colonial plantation house. The island is also home to the critically rare Seychelles paradise flycatcher. The next stop on the itinerary is the Anse Source d’Argent, one of the most spectacular beaches in the world, made famous by images of its granite boulders tumbling gently through powdery sand washed by turquoise waters.

Day 5: Maia paradise

Up arrow

The day is yours to once again indulge in the pleasures of Maia Luxury Resort & Spa. Whether you choose to head off on a scuba diving adventure, indulge in an epicurean odyssey at the hands of the multi-talented chefs or simply lie back and soak up the tropical sunshine, your butler and the staff of Maia will be there to ensure that your every need is catered for to an exacting degree.

Day 6: Bid the Seychelles goodbye

Up arrow

After a final breakfast and swim in the warm tropical ocean, it is time to wistfully depart your tropical paradise. You take with you memories of sun-kissed beaches, coral reefs teeming with life, and jungles echoing with birdsong - a vision of a tropical Eden that will remain with you forever.
