Overview

This sensational 13-day safari tour showcases four of Africa’s most exquisite destinations: Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti and Victoria Falls. Not only will you be privy to awe-inspiring game viewing, you will also enjoy some of the most luxurious and opulent safari accommodation in Tanzania and Zambia.

Kick off your holiday in the beautiful Tarangire, a hidden gem and often-overlooked wildlife park in northern Tanzania. It is home to all the big predators, buffalo and giraffe, but probably best known for its tree-climbing lions and massive herds of elephant. You will stay at the intimate and perfectly formed Little Chem Chem, the pioneers of ‘slow safaris’ – instead of driving around looking for game, Chem Chem’s guides will drive out into the bush, park, wait and let the animals come to you.

Then you will move to a glamourous safari lodge located on the rim of the world’s biggest inactive volcanic caldera. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is set in a breath-taking location with mind-blowing views over the crater. Here you will see thousands of large mammals, including the Big 5 (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo). The lodge’s luxurious suites feature en suite bathrooms with chandelier-lit bathtubs and showers, and incredible views from private viewing decks.

Next stop: ‘The Land that Moves on Forever’, also known as the world-famous Serengeti National Park. Tanzania’s flagship park is home to one of the biggest concentrations of wildlife on Earth and centre stage for the Great Wildebeest Migration, our planet’s most colossal land mammal migration. Settle in at the popular Serengeti Under Canvas, a luxury mobile tented camp that moves with the Migration across the plains. If you travel between about June and October, you will have front-row seats to one of Nature’s biggest spectacles.

Culminate your African safari at one of Zambia’s most indulgent and contemporary lodges, situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. Thorntree River Lodge offers the perfect final chapter to your safari, a tranquil retreat to spend a relaxing few days after all the action-packed wildlife encounters in Tanzania. And thanks to Thorntree’s excellent proximity to Victoria Falls, you can easily come face to face with the biggest waterfall in the world.

Days 2-4: A ‘slow safari’ in Tarangire | 2 Nights

Up arrow
Tarangire, Tanzania

Little Chem Chem is an owner-occupied and -managed lodge, situated in a protected area between Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara. It places strong emphasis on a visceral connection with nature and has a strong association with community development. Chem Chem are the pioneers of ‘slow safaris’ – instead of driving around in a 4x4 to look for game, you will drive into the concession, park, wait and let the wildlife come to you. This approach demands patience, tolerance and composure but it is a lot less tiring, much less dusty, and offers uninhibited and relaxed animal interactions.

Your luxury tented suite is perfectly positioned to soak in the show-stopping sunrises from its private patio – also equipped with a fireplace for magical evening stargazing. Memorable moments will include bush breakfasts and picnics, and the breath-taking sunset cocktails at Lake Manyara, while being serenaded by thousands of feasting flamingos and pelicans. You may also enjoy unique experiences like morning runs with a Maasai guard, having your vacation captured by a professional photographer, and hot-air balloon safaris.

Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Your next stop is the sensational Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, perched on the rim of the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Ngorongoro Crater is a rare natural wonder harbouring 30 000 animals, lush wetlands, forest and grasslands. It is not uncommon to see all the members of the Big 5 during a single game drive onto the crater floor.

Your luxurious suite features en suite bathrooms with chandelier-lit bathtubs and showers, and out-of-this-world views of the crater. You will be discreetly attended to by a personal butler and enjoy delicious cuisine served in exquisite locations. This is an exclusive and exceptional safari experience, confirming Ngorongoro Crater Lodge’s richly deserved reputation for excellence.

Days 6-9: Following Nature’s greatest event | 3 Nights

Up arrow
Serengeti, Tanzania

For the next couple of days, you will follow the Great Wildebeest Migration along the Serengeti’s rolling plains. Serengeti Under Canvas is a mobile tented camp, a comfortable and 'relocate-able' base from which to witness the Migration. You can expect simple yet stylish canvas tents, plush couches in the lounge area, and a personal butler who will ensure that you have everything you need throughout your safari.

Situated in the heart of one of our planet’s last natural migration corridors, this camp offers you the exclusive privilege to wake up with thousands of wildebeest around you. Daily game drives will bring you up close to the dramatic predator action, while guided nature walks offer a more intimate view of the wilderness. A cultural tour to a local Maasai village is also highly recommended. Close a thrilling day around a crackling camp fire, sharing anecdotes about your wildlife encounters while the sounds of the wild provide a soundtrack under a blanket of stars.
