13-Days Mozambique's Gorongosa & Bazaruto: A Bush and Beach Safari
Per Person Sharing
11 days
Mozambique is one of Southern Africa's premier holiday destinations, boasting year-round warm weather, turquoise blue oceans and wildlife-rich savannas. This itinerary offers guests an unforgettable combination of bush and beach, featuring a classic safari getaway in off-the-beaten-track Gorongosa National Park and an exclusive tropical island retreat to the Bazaruto Archipelago.
Begin your holiday on a seven-night circuit safari, exploring two distinct regions located on one million acres of wilderness in Gorongosa. Here, you'll have the opportunity to engage in game drives, walking safaris and weather-dependent boating along this biodiverse hotspot, which features montane forests, savannas and thriving wetlands. Your stay is split between two accommodations, with three nights spent at Muzimu Lodge and an additional four nights at Chicari Camp, as well as the opportunity to engage in stories of the park's successful restoration from local farmers and wildlife conservationists.
After a thrilling few days in the bush, the beach portion of your holiday invites you to relax for five nights at Azura Marlin Beach. Throughout your stay, you'll have access to a range of add-on water-based adventures, including snorkelling, island-hopping and scuba diving.Â
A destination known only to the discerning traveller, this itinerary invites you to savour the best of Mozambique, with wildlife-rich safaris, engaging community visits, inspiring educationals and beachside tranquillity to round out your experience.
When I chose Mozambique and the Gorongosa area it was based on seeing the Greg Clark 60 Minutes’ documentary. I can now say that the experience was well beyond my expectations. First, the land in the Gorongosa area is beautiful and varied. The Muzimu Tented Camp was first rate in the accommodations, food preparation, guides and total staff. My family was able to see many different wildlife as well as other experiences such as visiting the main camp with its research labs and visiting a beautiful waterfall going through towns and seeing all the children greeting us with waving hands and excitement.
After many trips to Africa, I will recommend that you can and should put Mozamb...
After a charter flight from Beira, transfer to Muzimu Lodge and settle into your private river-facing quarters before setting out on your first game drive of the holiday. Explore vast floodplains in search of epic wildlife sightings before savouring classic bush sundowners in an open veld with nothing but the chirping of cicadas and the clinking of wine glasses to accompany the otherwise peaceful sanctuary of nature.
The following day is dedicated to meeting key community members of the local village that have supported the reserve's restoration story. You're invited to meet with Gorogonosa's respected community partners including local schools, farmers and beekeepers with an afternoon safari to top-off the day's adventure. This once war-torn region decimated the numbers of animals in the region, but now Gorongosa thrives with wildlife from buffalo and elephants to lions and African wild dogs.Â
End your stay with a day of safari activities featuring a morning walk or game drive followed by an easy-going lunch set beneath a canopy of trees with the dappled sunlight warming your cheeks and the river flowing before your eyes. In the afternoon enjoy a second safari expedition in the form of a game drive.

Thank you once again for a very special memorable family trip.
Depart for Chicari Camp in the morning, with the option to book a full-day expedition on Mount Gorongosa, exploring rainforests and trekking to waterfalls for a cooling swim. Return for an afternoon game drive that sets the tone for your next four nights on safari.Â
The next day you'll have the chance to meet conservationists and scientists based in the park and whose work contributes to the park's reputation as a haven of sustainable conservation. This day includes visits to the E.O. Wilson Science Laboratories and walking alongside the Pangolin Guardians is an unforgettable experience.Â
A full day safari gives you ample opportunity to spot more wildlife with your choice of walking safari or game drive, followed by lunch overlooking the pan and then a second safari excursion. When the season permits, your final full day in Gorongosa is dedicated to boating along rivers in search of iconic birds and riverside wildlife. The afternoon is dictated by you – either relaxing on your private deck or taking the chance to head out on a last safari.
