Overview

Namibia is one of the best countries in Southern Africa for a self-drive family holiday because it has good tarred roads, low traffic numbers, and a welcoming combination of child-friendly accommodations and great scenic beauty.

You will collect your comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle in the capital – Windhoek – and spend the night at a charming guesthouse before setting out for the road trip of a lifetime. For the next 10 days, you will drive a classic ‘loop’ around the country that includes the Waterberg Plateau, Etosha National Park, the incomparable landscapes of Damaraland and the historic coastal town of Swakopmund, which is also Namibia’s adventure sports centre.

Namibia safari self-drives are ideal for travellers who enjoy being in control and setting their own pace. You will have everything in place for a carefree journey around this fascinating country.

Itinerary

Day to day

At Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek, you will collect your spacious, air-conditioned vehicle and make your way to Olive Grove, a charming guesthouse in a quiet neighbourhood conveniently located on the edge of the city.

If you prefer, you need not leave Olive Grove to enjoy meals or to unwind. Home-style meals are served on the terrace (Namibia’s climate is ideal for al fresco dining) and you can relax by heading to the cooling plunge pool or to the on-site Wellness Room for a soothing massage.

Of course, the city centre is not far away if you wish to dine out or if you have time to see some of the sights, like Heroes’ Acre (a memorial to Namibia’s greatest citizens), the Tintenpalast (the seat of government) or the Alte Feste (old colonial fort).
