Bringing together two of Tanzania’s best big-game destinations, this safari is ideal for travellers who have already experienced the more familiar side of East Africa and are looking for a different wildlife experience. This 8-day fly-in itinerary sees you dividing your time between Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park, both noted for their unspoilt landscapes, high biodiversity and abundance of wildlife. This is your chance to explore these two little-visited reserves in search of big game and predators with the comfort and convenience of great accommodation throughout.
The adventure opens in the Selous where you enjoy four nights at Siwandu, set next to a lake in the reserve. Game drives and walks with expert guides are the main activity and you can expect all sorts of pleasant diversions on your safari such as the possibility of a surprise alfresco breakfast on the morning drive and chilled sundowner drinks in the evenings. When water levels are high enough, you can sit back on a boat and explore the Rufiji River Delta.
You then fly to Ruaha National Park for three nights at Siwandu’s sister camp. Jongomero is a well-established and well-loved accommodation set deep in the southern part of Ruaha and far from other lodges. You enjoy a similar mix of safari activities and return to some of the most comfortable tented suites in the region. Beginning and ending in Dar es Salaam, this safari was designed for an easy beach holiday add-on. It is a short flight over to the beaches of Zanzibar, Mnemba or Pemba, making it an ideal beach-and-bush holiday for romantic travellers and honeymooners or even groups of friends.
