Impacto Positivo

Developing a Prosperous Mara-Serengeti Community Through Education

At the heart of the Mara ecosystem, where wildlife and people share the same land, the Wildlife Tourism College of Maasai Mara (WTC) is nurturing the next generation of conservationists, guides, and hospitality leaders. Evolving from the legacy of the Koiyaki Guiding School, which has already trained over 300 Maasai safari guides since 2005, the college supports young Maasai men and women with practical skills and formal qualifications in wildlife tourism.

While the Masai Mara is one of Kenya's most iconic safari destinations and a key contributor to national tourism, the communities that live alongside this natural heritage face high unemployment and limited access to quality education. The Wildlife Tourism College is helping to change that by offering specialised, affordable programmes designed to boost employment, preserve culture, and protect the region's fragile ecosystems.

Courses offered at the college include Nature Tour Guiding, Hospitality Management, Wildlife & People, and Climate Change, with both diploma and short-course options. All are rooted in practical learning, conservation awareness, and community development.

Asociación de Go2Africa con la Escuela de Turismo de Fauna Salvaje de Maasai Mara

Go2Africa is proud to support the work of the Wildlife Tourism College of Maasai Mara through a commitment to community-led education and conservation. For every trip booked that includes a stay at one of our selected Kenyan partner lodges*, we contribute $5 to the college, helping to fund the sponsorship of two students annually.

Located in the Pardamat Conservation Area, the college plays a vital role in connecting education with conservation. By training young Maasai in tourism and environmental leadership, the college not only supports individuals and families, but also contributes to the wider health of the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem.

Its broader goals are ambitious: achieving 80% graduate employment, increasing conservation research, welcoming thousands of learners and visitors annually, and enabling land-lease payments that benefit more than 850 landowners and their families. Each student sponsored is part of a wider ripple effect of economic resilience and ecological stewardship.

A Shared Vision for Community-Led Conservation

The Wildlife Tourism College of Maasai Mara represents a powerful shift toward inclusive conservation, one where the people of the Mara are the custodians of their own land, livelihoods, and legacy. By investing in skills training, education, and job creation, the college is creating a future where tourism benefits flow directly to those who live closest to the land.

Through our ongoing partnership, Go2Africa travellers play a meaningful role in this transformation. Every stay helps to equip local youth with the tools to thrive in an evolving tourism landscape while strengthening the cultural and ecological fabric of one of Africa's most treasured regions.
