The Royal Tree Lodge was a great and gentle way to introduce my family to camps and getting into Botswana!

The hotel there was quite a ways out of town but the people that run it are quite interesting and the one other couple that stayed there had been living in the Kalahari for 20+ years so we had a fascinating evening.

Maun – Royal Tree Lodge – Great accommodation and service, particularly impressed with Doug (Consultant) a warm, interesting, knowledgeable and very helpful person.

Royal Tree Lodge – very comfortable, beautiful setting, kind and helpful staff, great food. We wish we could have stayed another night. The setting was particularly great because it felt like a ‘mini safari’ – on our first drive on to the property, we saw a 2 day old baby giraffe with its mother. It was the perfect “intro to Africa”

The Royal Tree Lodge was definitely a treat. They have civets living in the “royal” tree and they come down into a spot light to get their evening treat. The couple running it are delightful hosts, the accommodations excellent, and a very nice safari walk as well as horse back ride. If one can’t make it to the camps the day one flies into Joburg, that is a much better place to spend the night than Joburg.

The venue and food wonderful- however the owner (male partner -would not allow us time to buy binoculars in Maun as we were advised to do and had planned.) He even said that we would not even be able to buy anything like that in Maun, and we have heard that there is a very good camping supplies place that sells everything including binoculars. Hence we went without for the entire time in Botswana. Not very good advice and definetely not helpful this way -we would not go back and stay there because of this. His wife was gracious and pleasant however.
thank you for the planning of a wonderful safari trip- it has been a wonderful experience and to be treasured forever.
