My travelling began when I was 16 years old and my family and I spent a year sailing up the South American coastline on our yacht. This experience introduced me to the joys of travel and certainly led me to my chosen career path. After completing my studies I worked as a tourist guide for two years, travelling through Southern and East Africa on mobile camping safaris. I then settled back in Cape Town and guided tours around the city, the Winelands and throughout the Garden Route for five years before I began to work as an African safari specialist in 2006. My previous experience as a tourist guide has always been invaluable in the planning of client’s trips around Southern and East Africa. After taking a break for several years to raise a family I returned to Go2Africa to continue my passion of arranging dream safari vacations for clients from around the globe.
Where I have travelled
On my most recent trip, I visited the incomparable wilderness of Botswana’s Okavango Delta - specifically Moremi Game Reserve - and the magnificent Victoria Falls. I stayed at several luxury camps in Botswana, namely Nxabega, Xaranna, Xudum, Sandibe and all offered superb accommodation, service and wildlife experiences. In Victoria Falls my accommodation was at Matetsi River Lodge, a luxurious and stylish lodge situated on the banks of the Zambezi River.
In South Africa I have visited the Kruger National Park, Madikwe Private Game Reserve, Sun City, kwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. In the rest of Africa I’ve seen Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania and Egypt.
Internationally I’ve touched down in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Venezuela, French Guyana, the Caribbean, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Holland, Italy, Germany and Greece.
My favourite travel moment
It’s always challenging to choose just one favourite moment as every trip through Africa leaves me with incredible memories. Some of my most special moments include driving down into the Ngorongoro Crater, flying over the spectacular Victoria Falls in a helicopter, hiking to the top of Dune 45 at Sossusvlei and simply relaxing on a mokoro (traditional canoe) trip in the Okavango Delta.
Where I want to travel to next
A safari in South Luangwa National Park is on my bucket list! It is one of Zambia’s top safari destinations and known for its largely unexplored areas and walking safaris. I would also like to travel to Mozambique again, this time to visit the Bazaruto and Quirimbas Archipelagos. Mozambique has some of the most beautiful beaches in Africa with its coastline offering incredible diving and snorkelling opportunities.
What I love about Africa
Each country holds its own unique beauty and attraction; a safari in one destination will be different from another. However, there are a few common traits that all of Southern and East Africa share and that I love: wide open spaces and incredible scenery, unmatched wildlife experiences and the friendliness of African people.
