About me

My travelling began when I was 16 years old and my family and I spent a year sailing up the South American coastline on our yacht. This experience introduced me to the joys of travel and certainly led me to my chosen career path. After completing my studies I worked as a tour guide for two years, travelling through Southern and East Africa on mobile camping safaris. I then settled back in Cape Town and guided tours around the city, the Winelands and throughout the Garden Route for five years before I began to work as an African safari specialist in 2006. My previous experience as a tour guide has always been invaluable in the planning of client’s trips around Southern and East Africa. After taking a break for several years to raise a family, I returned to Go2Africa to continue my passion of arranging dream safari vacations for clients from around the globe.

Where I have travelled

I recently travelled to Zimbabwe to visit the majestic Victoria Falls and Hwange NationaI Park, which is home to more than 40 000 elephants! On another I visited Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe and stayed at the beautiful Bumi Hills Lodge – a highly recommended destination.

One of my favourite destinations is the kwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa. Home to the Zulu tribe, it is well known for its long, wide-open beaches, warm ocean and fantastic game viewing. The magnificent Drakensberg mountains are a popular destination for hikers and the nearby historical landmarks from the Zulu and Anglo Boer wars are interesting areas to visit. Since most of this area is malaria-free it is a great destination for families and my family and I have enjoyed several trips to different parts of KZN.

Other recent traveling highlights include the Okavango Delta in Botswana and a number of safari areas in the Kruger National Park region.

On past trips I have also visited Madikwe Private Game Reserve, Sun City, the Garden Route and Eastern Cape, all in South Africa. Other highlights have been travelling in Mozambique, Namibia, Kenya and Tanzania.

Internationally I’ve spent time in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Venezuela, French Guyana, the Caribbean, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Holland, Italy, Germany and Greece.

My favourite travel moment

It’s always challenging to choose just one favourite moment as every trip through Africa leaves me with incredible memories. Some of my most special moments include driving down into the Ngorongoro Crater, flying over the spectacular Victoria Falls in a helicopter, hiking to the top of Dune 45 at Sossusvlei and simply relaxing on a mokoro (traditional canoe) trip in the Okavango Delta.

Where I want to travel to next

A safari in South Luangwa National Park is on my bucket list! It is one of Zambia’s top safari destinations and known for its largely unexplored areas and walking safaris. I will soon be travelling back to Kenya and Tanzania to explore more of these fascinating countries with their amazing wildlife, scenery and cultural opportunities.

What I love about Africa

Each country holds its own unique beauty and attraction; a safari in one destination will be different from another. However, there are a few common traits that all of Southern and East Africa share and that I love: wide-open spaces and incredible scenery, unmatched wildlife experiences and the friendliness of African people.
