Robyn-Lea van der Merwe

I grew up in the small town of Nelspruit (it was small!) having the advantage of spending almost every long weekend and school holiday in the Umbabat Private Nature Reserve at a place called Ingwelala. So, you could say I was born with a piece of safari life built in me.

After I finished university I had a desire to go explore the world and see what it had to offer. I worked on the cruise ships for eight months, discovering the Caribbean and all its gems. I returned home to Africa for a vacation and realized that this is the only place that I could call home and decided to resettle in South Africa.

After a year of working at a safari lodge I found my passion for helping travelers plan their dream vacations. I decided that I would love to be able to share my love for Africa with the rest of the world. I moved to Cape Town to work in a beautiful city and help people plan their travels to Africa.

Soulful Safari Reflection

My best moment on safari was travelling with my family to Mashatu, Botswana. On an afternoon game drive just before sunset we came across a family of cheetah – a mother and 4 adolescent cubs – relaxing when all of a sudden the mum got up and started moving quite fast, on a mission. She started stalking and about 15 minutes later gave chase to a herd of impala and made her kill.

My Best African Travel Advice

When travelling have no expectation as there will always be a moment to take your breath away. If you have an expectation, you will always be waiting for that and miss the special moments that are right in front of you.
